Ok so I'm going to assume it's just me and nothing with my truck. I'm not used to the gearing but first gear I think shifts out at about 5-10 mph depending on throttle which I understand. First gear is short especially with 3.92s but 7th and 8th gear get me. Since I've done my exhaust and I've started turning mds off I've noticed my truck runs 7th gear until around 45 mph then shifts to 8th. And shifts back around 40. Maybe it's just me but that seems a little early? Does that seem normal? I can't remember what my rpms are doing 70-80 on the interstate but I think they're above 2,000. I know I got 3.92 gears but that still seems short to me. Maybe it'll seem more normal when I get the chance to switch to the 285/75-18s

You can change your shift points to whatever you want with a tuner. Overdrive is usually always the longest gear.

I don't think it's when it shifts because the rpms all seem normal to me. I think it's more the fact that I'm in 8th gear and I'm cruising around town doing 45. It feels strange. My 97 wouldn't even be in OD until 55.

I feel like my truck is "lugging" down if I am driving around town in 8th gear(or overdrive). I always manually put the truck in 7th gear at any speeds lower than 50. Above 50 I shift it back into "overdrive".

If you have the factory 265/70/17 tires on your truck, 73 mph should put you at 2100 rpms. 7th & 8th gears are both "overdrive" gears(6th is 1:1).
When the trans shifts is not just by a specific rpm/mph but also torque demand. Pull a 3K trailer, you won't go higher than 7th @ 65mph(even with the Tow/Haul off).
If you just cruising around town, what does it matter if the trans is in 7th or 8th? If you push the go pedal down, it will downshift.

:) When I'm not happy with my tranny/RPM--

I just use the gear control on the steering wheel, maybe you don't have that option ??

Whatever

I do have wheel controls. That's how I turn off mds.

I think that's part of what it is for me because 8th seems to high of a gear for cruising around town. Maybe I'll try dropping it into 7th

This is true. That's why I figured I'd ask because I wasn't to sure with the new trans in these trucks. I'm used to the 46re days... 4 gears with 4th (OD) being highway gear.
