Gearing provides the allusion of power..... It gives you seat performance, but the truck is the same truck, it's the same motor. You gain nothing, other than a feeling of power. You have an 8 speed transmission no? If so.. you're getting the power to the wheels in the most efficient manner as it is. Take that 1200 bucks and get some AMP powered side steps :p

Is this post supposed to be a joke, or do you actually believe that?

and yet gearing influences tow capacity and track times.

I would have to guess that gearing does a little more than pass the butt dyno test. But I have the 6 speed transmission

Gear and converter do not give your engine any more power, but they both allow you to actually use the power your motor is already making. These mods will easily knock .4-.6 off your 1/4 mile time which is a HUGE gain.

Ok. So what would a ballpark cost be to buy the parts and have them installed for say, 3.92 gears and a locker in the rear on a 4th gen 4x4 ram 1500? Right now I have 3.21 gearing and obviously open diffs. Id love to get this done.

9-12 will be a LOT easier and cheaper than 13 and up.

Why do you say 13 and up is more expensive? And how much are we talking? 2k or more?

It's actually '12+. Starting in 2012 the front diff has the ring gear welded to the carrier so you need to replace the entire axle assembly to change the gear ratio. This makes it a lot more expensive.

The Mechanical advantage of 4.10s over 3.21s (specifically in the 5/645REF) is uge!

I did 4.10s and the Mopar version of LSD, from Matt at Mo's, I might add. Money well spent. I had 3.55s. Man, did 3.55s ever suck. It was either regear, or sell the truck. If l keep it under 66 mph, l see 20+ quite often on the lie-o-meter. This thing is impressively quick for a 5600 pound truck!

My vote is Lt headers. But ive already 3.92s on mine.

For your case I'd forego gears as it's pricey. You can always go smaller tire if you wanna track it to make up the difference. Or torque converter to compliment the gears already there. Which is almost the cheapest option ( self installed)

Exhaust tubes and muffler is always audibly enjoyable.

Or nitrous for 500 bucks.
