So on my new sport my dealer is telling me I need to do my oil every 7500 miles or 6 months whichever comes first. I asked them what about my first oil change for the break in period on the motor. They told me I don't need to come in for that either and my first oil change will be at 7500 or 6 months.

I have a problem with this. Every vehicle I've ever owned the break in oil had to come out usually did it around 1500 miles.

I have a lifetime powertrain warranty on my truck as long as I keep a record book. BUT can my dealer be trying to scam me by telling me I do not need an oil change? Could they be trying to get me to void my lifetime powertrain by not changing the oil? Mind you they never told me in writing so it would be my word against theirs.

Thanks for they help

I changed mine at 5000. Went longer than I really wanted too but didn't make it due to being a work truck. Got 19000 now and it hasn't blown up yet.

The dealers say that you don't need to change the oil at 1500 miles anymore for breaking in. Did you get free oil change for the first year from your dealer? If so, I would just follow their lead. Keep an eye on the oil life info on your truck and change around 20% oil life left. That's what my dealer advised us to do. On fourth Ram now and have had zero issues doing this.

So they're not BSing me saying I don't need to go change the oil from the break in period? I just think of all the shavings from the grooving in the oil pan. Ugly thought

Nope, not BS'ing you. The engine will be fine. Just run it and change the oil at the recommended interval.

I waited til my oil life was done around 10k miles before I changed mine. Figured it has a oil life indicator for a reason. At 22k miles now and on my 3rd round of oil through my engine.

brooooooo... their is a little gauge on your dashboard, in the EVIC, says OIL life... if that says you don't need to, then you won't be in danger of voiding your warranty, ever. 'nuff said.

I changed my oil 1st time at 2,500 miles. I plan to do it between 4000 and 5000 miles each time. Once I hit 4200 miles or so, I look for a nice warm day and "gut 'r done!!

I never let anyone else do the deed, as I don't want some ******* touching my truck. I got an oil change at an oil change place in 2001, and the ******* put in the wrong oil because he did not read the work order and he soaked my leather steering wheel with oil.

If you want to time travel back to the groovy "bro" days in the 60's or 70's then go right ahead and change your oil at 1500, but if you rather stay in the present 5000 to 7000 should be "out of sight"

( just a note: I can talk with much authority about the 60's because I was around then, unlike the young whipper snappers that use 60's language even though they didn't walk on this planet until the 80's :baby:) :favorites13:

Per the Owners Manual

Under no circumstances should oil change interval exceed 10K on 1500 Models
8K on 2500/3500

Yeah on my 2014, I went to Mobil 1 at around 1500 miles.... and now it's about every 10K per the oil life monitor. You'll be fine sir.

Brotato Chip. Hehe.

7500 is an odd number. You would think it'd be lower, but like one member said just follow their lead. Yes, every 5000 after the initial should be fine.

And if you're worried about little iron shavings floating around your oil pan, you can always get one of those magnetic drain plugs.

So I'm one of those bros that has an oil change scheduled to go to PUP full synthetic on Saturday. Truck only has 1,000 miles. I'm considering rescheduling it a couple thousand miles down the line.
