I think it was vg10 that was one of the "custom" steels that gave birth to the "super steels". Supposedly they have a lot of new steels that are stronger, hold an edge better, and need sharpening even less, but because of my history with the steel I favor vg 10. Someday I would like one of the newer steels, I think benchmade has some of the newer even better steels.

You are right sir. They are now finally creating Steel’s design for knives. For the eternity of man we have just found Steel’s that work reasonably well as a knife but have never made steels dedicated for the purpose.

Now its getting real and there are TRUE knife steels being created. All this exploded in like the past 10 years

My personal favorite is the HOFFMAN RICHTER 440, used as an edc, good weight and balance, very fast spring assisted and holds an edge quite well. Blade is 3 7/8, Decent pk for 40$

I like the gimping on the blade, notice the two pocket knives on my list have exaggerated gimping like that.

The reason why the Delica 4 is my favorite is because of the thumb assist with gimping, that thing locks in your hand like no other knife. Sharp as hell as well, I like the 100% stainless with the 100% serrated. Sadly I lost mine and only have the police model left, but I will get another some day.

I have to share one of the most iconic knives in America that I am lucky to own. A good friend of mine gave this to me hoping I could get some true use out of it as a utility/working knife. WHAT A GIFT!

These things may be old news but they are tough as they come with a .165” thick 1095 high carbon steel full tang blade and a beautiful stacked leather handle that is surprisingly grippy with a steel cap.

I’m currently in the process of finding a nice knife sharpening system for this knife. This Steel is not the easiest to sharpen but once it’s got a nice edge it holds it for a very long time.

I guess I am more old fashioned. I carry an old Case model 6318 (made somewhere between 1940-64) and an old Buck 110 thats had a new blade put in at the Buck factory.

I also have a pretty good collection of Case knives, mostly stockman patterns from 1940 to 1976 I think is my newest. Im a sucker for vintage Case red bone.

It's actually visa versa, the steel is really easy to sharpen but doesn't hold the edge a long time. Nothing gets sharper though. You will see, for vg10 steel you need to put some thought into it, but for that carbon imo you don't even need too many stages, just a decent stone and a strop, I prefer jewelers rouge for strop, eliminates the need for many compounds, it polishes from 5 to 1. Whereas for mirror finish they have 3 steps to achieve the same finish.

Yeah, I still have a ton of love for Buck knives. Brings me back to boy scout days. Both fixed and pocket, still really good knives. In my top ten for sure. Case as well, even like those better then Buck.

Look for this stuff for the strop, especially on easier to polish blade steels.

I like the type that hold the blade, this one even allows you to hold the angle, not bad for 25 bucks. Many other systems like this are 10 times as much, lol. No joke the "fancy" ones are 450 bucks, a total joke of a price.

Who cares about the knives...what oil are y'all usin' on 'em? Do they open better with dino or full syn? What numbers are y'all getting back from Blackstone on the UOAs?

EDIT: So just in case someone's wondering, here's one of my faves...a genuine Spyderco Paramilitary 2! Not carried often, but once I dump the stock clip on her, she'll be in my pocket a lot more!

Lucas gun oil all the way on mine. Lucas fishing reel oil if its closer than the gun oil. Whatever keeps it smooth. Havnt submitted a uoa on it yet. My guess is, it would test pretty high in the pocket lint area.
