So apparently Whipple is FINALLY making a kit for the 5.7L Rams... I saw this on their Facebook page this morning:

Currently I'm waiting to pass judgement, BUT I'm not a huge fan of where the throttle body is. I would guess some wiring is going to have to be extended to move it all the way back like that. Also, it makes doing a vararam style intake more difficult.

Still, they're using the 2.9L unit, which means if you build the motor you can turn up the boost and make more power than a Hellcat...

I would imagine it should come with a wire harness extender for the TB,and by the looks of it,it'll utilize the stock airbox,as it's still in the pic,and would only need a short elbow to hook up to the TB.

Not only is a vararam not needed in a application like this, but why would you even want it when it would cover up that beauty and give you no additional advantage like t would on a NA motor. I'd kick the vararam to the curb if I ran this thing

Cannot like this enough. This is awesome. I'm curious to see how much hp they will push through with the 8-speed.

That's more or less what I was thinking. Whipple is pretty good about having plug and play kits.

Not really... The more open your intake is, the better. The pumping losses from the blower (AKA parasitic drag) are reduced with a more open intake.

The reason that's disappointing to me is that I wanted to get the SRT-10 style hood with the intake, and that's easier to do with a Vararam style intake.

Me too. I'd guess they're gonna run low boost for now, around six or seven pounds, but this blower will make up to 30psi. I doubt it would make that much on one of our motors, but suffice it to say you'll be able to blow up the motor with one of these kits and a smaller pulley.

I'd be looking for the 107mm TB upgrade and running their 3.6L headunit if I ever went with a screw-type. With the TB placement it'd be a lot easier to setup an intake that uses any of the aftermarket ram air hoods that route the air to the stock air box location. I'd also have to try and figure out how to run a cog or 8 rib belt because the 6-rib just wouldn't cut it for me unless they have a huge upgrade over the stock tensioner that works on the trucks.

So who's getting one first? Matt?

I hope so. I meant to text him about it. I'd totally help him install it just to document everything and get a review on it.

All excellent points, though I favor the 3.4L/4.0L Whipples over the other models.

At least with the electric power steering upgrading to more ribs is a lot easier. There's also the frankentensioner mod, where you basically take a second tensioner and stack it on top of the first.

Hey Shep can you post up a link?

You got it. Took me a second to figure out how to link the post directly... OP is updated with it as well.

Ok, not to be a naysayer, because I'm not, but what makes the Whipple any better than the Edelbrock TVS system? I know the Edelbrock comes with a very conservative tune and is a 2.3 unit, but for argument sake, let's take Edelbrock out of it and just ask TVS. Is the Whipple a TVS blower? I know guys with mustangs running 4.0 TVS's. Those things are insane.

Now I don't know about that, where there's a will there's a way, I was told you couldn't put a Vararam Air Grabber on 3rd gen... well I did it anyway.

The TVS blower is about the same efficiency but there is zero upgradeability with their design without having to get custom drive pulleys made for the truck and they already run a rather small drive pulley so downsizing the drive pulley generally results in belt slippage. With the variety of other Whipple systems available there's a lot more after-aftermarket support for them with plenty of upgrades available. Both are good blower systems (minus Edelbrock's involvement) the Whipple just has more room to grow compared to the TVS.

Just trolled through that post. I will definitely keep my eyes on the guys that are test subjects for the first little while. I'd be curious how the 66rfe will hold up to it. Anybody know the design limits for this transmission?

So does Whipple use the Teflon lined screws like a TVS? I noticed they sure are proud of them judging by the price tag on their existing kits.

Edit: Also, I wonder it they'll offer it for the 6 spd. auto. The Edelbrock kit is only offered for the 8 spd.
