Going to service my transmission on my 07 1500, has 95000 on it and not sure it has ever been done. My question is I'm replacing the trans output seal as well, and getting seal and filters from the dealer, should I get the fluid there to, or can I use a valvoline atf4, it's gonna be an extra 45 $ just for 5 qts through the dealer.

Any premium ATF-4 should be good. I use Mobil 1 but that is personal preference. Is your tail shaft seal leaking? If so, is the driveshaft yoke loose? You may have a worn bushing. I changed mine last year. Took the tail housing to a trans shop and had them replace it with bushings I bought from NAPA. The bushing has to be aligned with holes for proper lubrication and I don't have the proper tool.

I thought I could just replace the seal after I drop the drive shaft, it's not dripping on the ground yet, but it's moist and I see above the dr shaft where it has slung some fluid up there.

The check is simple enough after dropping the shaft and before you pull the front yoke and see how much play there is. Then you know where you stand. If you do decide to remove the tail shaft housing there is very little oil lost if any. Good luck..

I agree about ATF+4 all with that on bottle are fine. They have a very strict recipe if you will so no need to worry as long as it is indeed ATF+4.
