I have the therm and extra coolant. However it is about to be winter and up here in Montana it gets pretty cold. Anywhere from -30 to +40 from November till end of February. Would it still be ok to change it out to the 180 or should I keep the stock one in until next spring?

I've read that the heater might not get hot enough with the 180 in there.

What is the reason to change it back to stock in winter?

Some trucks would throw a code with a 180 in winter so to keep the light off they would go back to the stock one. It got to 40 here the other night and I took my truck out with the 170 in it and the heater felt normal and hot just as quick as the stock one.

kenneth is right, it would throw a code for not warming up to operating temp quick enough.

Its weird to see what some trucks act like to a mod and what other ones wont. I never tossed a code with my 180 and that was in the truck for a year, only had 1 code with my 170 and none since. Other trucks will toss codes with a 180 and cant shake them. My heater has felt normal that being said it only gets in the single digs at the coolest all year here.

My jet180 has gone through two RI winters with no problems. You should be fine.

Richens up the A/F to reduce knock and alill added performance. Its also a good saftey for cammed guys or guys with headers. Kinda cheap insurance you dont run lean at WOT.

Not really. As long as it's a 180 and it works likes it's designed to, it shouldn't matter what name is on the box

I still have the box mine came in. I'll take a pic of it tomorrow. It's a Stant from advanced. I think it was for a Mazda or something, I can't remember. You'll want to drill a small bleeder hole in it.

I think I have a spare in my shop. I'll take a pic of it tomorrow. Heck, pm me your address and you can have it for the cost of shipping if you want. It's already drilled.
