I want to drop my 05 1500 daytona. It is a 4x4. I would love to do a 4/6 drop on it but I have read that the cv joints really can't take it and they shutter. Is that true and if it is what would be the best way to solve it?

I'm not 4x4 but I've seen more than one 4x4 dropped 2/4.5. Hopefully one of the lowered 4x4 guys will chime in.
One of my favorite dropped 4x4's is this one.

4.5" would have been too low on mine. 2/3 left mine level.

If you want to go 4/6 you're also going to have to notch the frame in the rear as well.

To do an effective 2/4.5 you need 2/4.5 spindle kit. Runs about $600 from moes performance, but I think mcgaughys website had it for $588. Unsure on their shipping charges. Moes is free to lower 48 states. The spindles allow you to keep factory geometry. Provides a better ride. You need shorter shocks up front but with the 4.5 you can use stock size shocks. Best way for a 4wd from what ive heard.

Look into the spindle kit plus 2" drop coils up front. Total would get you the 4/6 but youd need a c notch. 2/4.5 with some 18"s looks nice.

I was looking at the 2/4.5 on moe's and it says that it uses stock shocks. Do I really need shorter shocks for the front?

The shorter shocks are only if you go with 4" in the front. 2/4.5 uses all stock shocks. With 4x4 if you don't use the spindle kit you put too much stress on your cv axles. Drop Spindles keep this from happening.

I forgot to clarify that. My bad

Before I went 4/6 I ran drop shocks in all corners with a 2/4 drop

The difference is if you use the drop spindle you stay with the stock shock. If you use a drop spring then a drop shock maybe in order. I found cross reference shows a 2003 Durango shock being used with a 2-3" drop shock. I have a set on Red with a 3" front drop and they seem to work. But not really tested yet since I'm still working on the engine.
