So as some of you already know i had a pretty deformed ram grill emblem from RAMming a tree off roading years back lol, decided i was going to try and fix it and do a two tone paint matched white and black. well i finally got the time this weekend to really give it some attention and i got it all finished so heres pics and what i did.
STEP 1: remove emblem from grill, very easy to do there are two tabs on the backside of the grill and then its just held on by 2 sided tape so carefully pry it off with a couple small flat heads (wrap duct tape around flat heads to avoid scratching anything.)
STEP 2: seperated ram head from backing plate which is just tabs and clips
STEP 3: pull out the dremil and sanding wheel and power sand the chrome down (the chrome is tough but be careful not to use to much pressure or youll ruin the plastic underneath. just do a little and look, little more then look etc.)
STEP 4: take some 800 grit and go back over wetsanding to make sure its all smooth, now also 800 grit wetsand the black plastic backing plate.
STEP 5: spray both pieces with a good plastic adhesion promoter (i recommend bulldog.) i did 2 dust coats and one wet but be careful you give enough time in between coats otherwise youll get a reaction with this stuff, snake skin
STEP 6: spray them with primer. i used transtar 2 in 1 filler and primer (also the primer i would recommend)
STEP 7: wet sand with 800 grit until completely smooth and a uniform coat
STEP 8: get to painting
STEP 9: spray your clear coat, i did 4 wet coats of 2k clear because its on the front, it takes rocks and crap so i wanted a thick clear. and if you use a 2k remember you MUST wear a appropriate respirator that works on isocyanites!
STEP 10: re assemble the emblem. i actually took my dremil and cut off the 2 tabs on the sides because i was afraid i was going to scuff my clear up trying to squeeze em back into place so i did that and then used a thin layer of JB quick weld on the back all around the edges.
STEP 11: use some 3M 2 sided tape and layer the whole backside of your emblem with it. i wiped the whole back side down with alcohol to ensure a good adhesion as well as the grill before sticking tape. obviously allow the alcohol to COMPLETELY air dry before applying tape lol.
STEP 12: stick that bad ass RAM on your grill and look at your work!

heres all the pics i took, sorry i didnt take pictures of every step but if you got any questions feel free to ask. cheers :favorites13:
