Door rust question

What makes our door seams rust? I notice on my driver door and driver side rear door on bottom of door/seam rust is forming. I was going buy a used door off someone and saw theirs are starting to rust there too. So what causes this?

Bringing this thread back from the graveyard...where are the drains that could be getting clogged that is causing this issue?

My 02 4.7 has a few rubber plugs on the bottom of doors, I pull them every once in a while, but only the first time I did it did anything come out, I had to stick a flathead in there to get some gunk out before rusty water would come out.
