I'm looking to swap out my stock rear diff cover to a magtech performance cover. Is there a specific cover and bolt pattern I should be looking for and does it matter if I've re geared the rear to 4:56 gears? May sound like a stupid question but just want to know I'm getting the proper cover for my truck.

Also want to know if royal purple is a good gear oil to put in. I haven't changed the fluid since I've done the re gearing about 1-1/2 years ago. Thanks for all the help in advance.

That diff cover is bigger so the gears won't be a problem your looking for a dodge 9.25", royal purple is a good one as well. I just had used Castrol synthetic when I changed my break in fluid.

You say you never changed your fluid after you re geared. Like you didn't do the break in cycle an change out the fluids??

Yeah I did the 500 mile break in cycle but wasn't told how long after to change the fluid. Haven't had any problems since I've change the gearing. But what is a normal servicing? Every how many miles? Thanks a lot!

I'm just waiting for my new differential cover to come in and want to get the right gear oil. Can I use royal purple synthetic and how do I know if I need limited slip additive? In my Dodge Ram owners manual it calls for 75-140 8a2a55a2b21a68b10454825ce20445e8.jpg

Does this mean it has limited slip? And I should buy the additive? Thanks in advance for any help

That is just from the manual, for all rear diffs. You need to find your build sheet to know if yours had a limited slip from the factory (or jack up the rear, and see if the wheels spin in opposite or the same direction, same direction is limited slip).

FYI, you can get diff fluid that already had the additive in it (most actually do), it won't hurt anything if you have an open diff.

Royal purple has the additive in it. Just get the 75/140. drain, clean and fill.

Thanks guys! All ready installed the new Mag-Hytec diff cover and fluids. Ended up using about 4.5 qts with the new cover. Looks great! Next I'll be investing in my tuner and then changing my trans fluids filter and adding Royal Purple.

Any recommendations on a tuner and A pillar?
