Turn Off MDS?

I have a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 and I was just curious as to if there is any way to turn off the MDS system without buying a programmer. Also if any of y'all have done this to your truck please let me know how bad it effects the gas mileage in the city and on the highway as well. Thanks.

As far as I know, you will have to use a programmer to disable the MDS. I turned mine off on my 07', my fuel mileage on the interstate, dropped by 7 MPG. I turned the MDS back on since I can go into tow mode which also temporarily disables the MDS.

Like harleu said, From what I heard, only way to temporarily turn it off is to press that tow mode button every time you turn on that engine. Other than that, you need a programmer.

Tow/Haul mode or tuner is how I understand it to be...

^^^^These are your only options unless you try something crazy like having someone attempt a 2500 flash in your PCM.

So turn on the truck hit the tow/haul option, then hit it again to get the O/D off then hit it again to return to normal, and the MDS will be disabled until the vehicle is shut off and turned back on again?

It's disabled while in tow/haul mode.

It is off when in the O/D Off mode also. As long as it is in Tow, or O/D Off mode, (indicator lights will be on), the MDS is disabled. This will reset when ignition is turned off.
