What are the transmission solenoids packs

I was just told it could be the transmission solenoids packs, what are they and how much $$$ would it be?

not too hard to swap out. and they are usually one of the main culprits of transmission problems. if you look on the outside drivers side of the tranny, see that huge square plug, plugging strait down above the pan, those wires are going into the solenoid pack. to get to it unplug that. drop the pan, remove the flat filter, then remove the valve body. the solenoid pack is attached to the top side of the vb. take off the 15 or so hex screws directly beneath the pack, and it will come right off.

Yeah I'm thinking its going to be that, because my truck only shifts to 3rd and it wont shift to 4th

It sticks in 3rd as a "limp" mode to allow you to get it home. I just had this done on an 06 Commander at the dealer. $625 for parts and labor.

it hasnt thrown any codes,, its been running pretty good. I'm just going to let it go and hopefully it fixed by itself.
