8.4 screen blank then begins to flicker

I just went out and started my truck. I noticed that the radio screen was black and no music was playing. I shut off the truck and let it sit for a few minutes. I started it again with the same issue. This time I let the truck run a few minutes since it’s cold in New York. The screen eventually came on and would turn on and off on its own. No music would play and I couldn’t adjust the controls. Anyone have any input on this? Here’s a video of what it’s doing.

My thoughts after watching your video of this issue:

- This doesn't look like the cold weather/bad solder joints in the radio issue.

- Did this start after a recent radio SW update to 17.x ?

- This kind of looks like a bad signal from the HVAC bezel, ie the "BACK" button is sticking or the chip on the board is failing.

>>> Try disconnecting the small 8 pin connector that only goes to the HVAC/volume bezel and see if it continues to blink on/off. If it stops then it's definitely the bezel.

Let us know how it goes.

PS: do you have a single zone or dual zone HVAC bezel

Thanks for the response. I tried that and will have to see if it will continue to do it. It doesn’t happen every time I start the truck which is stumping me. I have dual zone

That was before but the same thing but happened after I did the soft reboot. I did what grim said and just waiting to see if the issue happens again.

Got it ! ...Trust me when I say :

He’s definitely very knowledgeable, it’ll be tough to do his suggestion because this issue lasts about 45 seconds and goes back to working

If your problem continues after you try what was suggested you may want to try installing your original 8.4 radio if you still have it. If the problem persists you can rule out the other issues and focus on the radio itself. Of corse that's only if you didn't sell your original 8.4 VP4CA. Just thought I would mention it just in case you still had it.

I actually returned the one I purchased from infotainment. That radio wouldn’t shut off on its own so I returned it.

This happened in my fiancé's Journey last year. We had to take it to the dealership to fix it. They ended up having to change out the whole stereo. May wanna look into that

Looks like there might have been a loose connection or something. The last time I took the dash apart I disconnected everything and then put it back together. So far no issues
