I guess what you should be looking for is changing the NP243 you have with a NP241 with a manual shifter and linkage.

But the NP243 does not have a vacuum lock, it is an electric motor instead of the manual shifter linkage.

its got the stick on the floor

The rams dont have a vacuum disconnected hub. The hubs are always locked (unibearings). Is that what you were asking?

Old 4wd vehicles, used to either have manual locking hubs (the switch in the middle of your wheels), or a vacuum disconnect so the front driveshaft wouldn't spin.

Is there a way to manually engage 4hi by disconnecting the electronics? That would help you rule out a mechanical issue.

The only thing I can think of would be the electronic shifter is not working, or for some reason the chain split, and it is not giving power to the front. I have had Jeeps NP231 open to install a 2low kit, Slip Yoke Eliminator, and a teralow 4:1 front half. There really isnt much that can go wrong with these things.

You really have to climb under it and check the linkage. If you feel it actually moving and locking into place, then it is working. Since they are in-line, it doesn't need to line up with a shift pattern.
