Trying to do the brakes on my 96 ram 2500 but the drum is stuck bad. It will spin but no movement other than that what so ever. Sprayed pb blaster in all the gaps and tapped it with a hammer, got to the point where I was beating it with the back of an 8 pound maul. I didn't want to torch it cause is was covered in Pb blaster. Any ideas? Thanks.

12lb sledge. Hit the front, back and face of the drum. Its just a lot of rust. To free mine I took it for a drive and rode the brakes a bit to get the drums nice and hot. Smacked them real good with the sledge and they popped off within 5 hits.

am I missing something? isn't a 3/4 ton a full floater rear axle? Don't you need to remove axle shafts, and wheel bearings and adjuster nut, first? Did you do that, first?

I think only the duallies were full float. I know the 2500s are semi, my buddy has a 2500 with a cummins and we replaced his drums and pads this summer.

my 76 Power Wagon w200 has Dana60 w/full floating (rear) axles. I don't know 100%, but pretty sure 3/4tons still have full floaters. If it's 8lug wheels, it should be full floater.

Thats possible, the 3500s with singles very well could be full float. I've just never seen an 8 lug on anything but a dualie for the Gen 2s

I never had much luck with Kroil. Besides, it is expensive and really stinks. Somebody did a comparison of all the rust busters out there and the winner was a home brew of 50:50 ATF and acetone. I have not tried it yet.

You will have a hard time beating that mix.

That is not a parking brake tightener. It adujusts the brake shoes and is actuated when you use the parking brake.
I'm sure everyone thought you had already backed off the brake shoes.
Good luck with your brakes.

yup you have to sometimes back those things off a lot to get the drum off. it really depends on how much of a lip is on the drum. took a set off today. at least adjusting them back to where they need to be is easy. my buddy was happy with how much better his brakes felt after just adjusting that adjuster. even his park brake started working better. that adjuster effects a lot.

here is a link to the article that did the testing with atf/acetone
