My rear gas tank band is sseverly rusted to the point where one side is only half there, and the bolts holding it up are also heavily coroded, and are in a bad spot to get at them. I am looking to make a skid plate set next fall in welding class, which would include front and rear axels, and the gas tank. Should I just design the tank plate to carry the tank and lose the bands all together? tank plate will likely be made of 1/8" steel plate welded to a 1 or 1.5" square tube frame and Rhino lined. probably bolted up in similar fashion to the stock T-case plate.
