ok RF fam my truck came from momma mopar with the 118 amp alt.. I am wanting to upgrade to a larger amp alt however don't know what all fit for a larger output.. Ive seen the links for the 160 amp durango swap and that seems very do-able.. so how would i test the current amp of my altenator? (in case someone else has already changed it) and are there any ill affects of using a higher amp alt? will the pcm adjust to keep from over-charging? The reason for going larger is I am going to be running more lights and an aftermarket stereo system.. nothing note worthy just keeping strain down if i can thanks guys

Edit for info: 2000 1500 5.2 auto 4x4..

The Denso 160 amp is the biggest I could find that I could get relatively cheap and required no bracket mods or belt changes. Yes you can have one built to your specs and you can get higher than the 160 but the prices are going to be in the $400+ range at least thats what I saw out there. Volts is going to be the same and the pcm will control that with no problems. The output lead will have to be upgraded for sure as it is too small to handle the 160 amp output. One thing to remember when upping the amp's is when its under load it will use more hp than the smaller amp alts.

Most DVM's will not, some do, so depends on the model of DVM. Why are you wanting to test amps out?

Any part numbers off them? Chances are good that the rango has a 136 amp.

913AB =136 amp. Get the plug that goes in the back with that alt as it might be different from yours. So expect to do some wiring NO crimp **** butt connectors solder only and shrink tube.

update just swapped in alts.. direct fit (almost) lol the shim on the bottom had to be moved about an 1/8'' and it is steel and alum housing so I had to use a little heat and some blaster but it finally moved. I believe this is just to slight differences and absolutely nothing that can't be dealt with.. hope this helps someone else looking for a small upgrade in the charging department
