Does anyone run a 91 tune with 87 octane? Or 87 tune with 97 octane and receive any benefits. I still need to play around and see whats best.

Whats the best 1-2,3-4 rpm shifts? Right now I have 1-2 at 6k, and wow it really unlocks the power of my truck if I want to go. But I am unsure if 6k is safe. Any input?

I had mine on 91 tune runnin 89 octance and from what I've been told that's a no-no. I can't remember my WOT shift points off the top of my head. I just changed mine back to the 87 tune since I'm runnin 89 octance. I'm sure more will add their input here soon :D

General rule of thumb... NEVER put less than the octane required for tune (91 in a 91 tune). Its fine to put higher octane in (93 in a 91tune or 91 in a 87tune for example), but never the other way around

IMO, if you going to modify the tune or generally change anything from bone stock, then you need to monitor what is going on, or you can be damaging something without knowing it. Anyway that's my 2 cents...

Alright thanks for the clear up on the octane, so it can damage the truck? I ran a tank of gas through it that way.

I was using 93 octane and the 93 tune and was still getting WOT knock. So even when you think it should be good it is not always so. But knock usually is only a problem when you are at wot or pulling hills. Rolling around light footed won't give you knock. And we do have knock sensors to pull timing if things really get out of hand. Just don't rely on them too much..

What are the symptoms of this knock?

I did some research and found out it can cause pinging, which mine currently does not have. So i am safe.

How would you know if you have pinging? Do you have ultrasonic ears?

The solution here is simple, either refuel with the correct octane or retune to the correct tune.

Trust me, we didn't get old growing up around engines just to not know what we're talking about.

Detonation is generally undetectable unless you are monitoring it on a gage. But if the sensors pickup KR it ******* the spark and the truck goes flat or hesitates usually on a shift. Don't ask me how I know this, but I now keep a eye on it using a AerForce gage which I often recommend to folks who like to play.
