So went to the dealer this past weekend and looked at the long bed cummins that was there and I've always wanted a rcsb cummins. So just how much work is involved? I know it's 2 imches off the rear of the frame and 17 1/2 out of the middle a new bed and shorter drive shaft but what about the fuel tank and such. Anyone know of a shop that would actually do this in the north east?

What problem are you looking to solve with such a configuration besides a "want"?

Isn't want enough? lol It'd b a mean 1/4 mile truck.

The simplest route would prob be fuel cell...

Why lift a truck? Because I want to. Always wanted one and thought it would be a sweet build. I'd get a carli 3 inch lift for ride quality and then throw some 35's on it and fully delete it and maybe a twin turbo set up down the road

19 year old dreaming. I remember those days!! Good times but I think that build is a long shot when you price it all out. Unless you are just wiping your ass with the extra $100s you have laying around. It will be way pricey. Good luck though and please prove me wrong.

Its been done alot, but I have yet to see many newer ones as a daily driver. most are drag diesels in the NHDRA.. There have been tons of (well not tons but alot) of RCSB 2nd and 3rd gens built. anything newer is too much $$$ unless its marketed ofr a business and gains revenue from it.

Just do a good search for it and you will find many. I think it was about 6-8 months back Diesel Power Mag had one on the cover. Black 4th gen Drag truck.

If we are thinking about the same truck, that black 4th gen is a 1500 that was gutted, tubbed, caged and Cummins swapped

I plan to short bed my RCLB Cummins down the road, maybe next year, maybe not for 5 years who knows. A buddy of mine is going to help me, guy drives a Cummins swapped 3500 SRW chassis that he cut and shortened and body swapped an Escalade on to.

Diesel Cartel did this to a new Ford recently as a shop truck.

Well i asked our local fab shop about cutting the frame and he said around 2000 for that and around 500 for the drive shaft so then it's a fuel cell and a bed. Just not sure how a lift would work on the rear due to it not being stock but who knows. I plan on having it just lifted for a few years then doing the cutting of the frame

The lift shouldn't be affected by the frame cut unless you had a long arm kit... but just a standard lift kit, you should be fine. Worst case it would be relocating brackets for ur control arms.

Looking at just a 2.5 carli lift to fit some 37's but a 6 inch would look good but maybe too big what do you think?

Not a Cummins but I've always dreamed of having this rcsb Powerwagon. This would be awesome with a Cummins.

Ive never been involved in this exact project, but from experience, expect a lot of little "gotcha" moments along the way. There always is.

In theory, if you shorten the frame to the length of a 6ft bed, you could simply swap in a complete bed from another truck. I would NOT try to shorten the existing bed. In a hot rod application with big tubs and it doesn't really matter, its a little different. But for this, no. I think step one is find your a bed from a crew cab truck, make it fit on the frame. It shouldn't really be that bad, any shop that does offroad projects or quality bagged/show/lowrider trucks can handle this. Its leaps and bounds easier than a stock floor body drop.

From there, im not sure why you couldn't mount a normal gas tank either. In theory this truck would be exactly the same as a normal crew cab, from the back of the cab to the bumper. The only thing different is you the cab size.

If all that worked, then you could press on with a lift kit. As stated, I don't think it would be that intense. Especially a small lift.

This is by far the best suggestion on how to approach this type of build. especially since there are many companies that do this work every day on pickups and can easily do it to a longbed 2500/3500 and be alot cheaper.

Either way the best way to start this project it by buying a 2500/3500 CTD

Yup thats one I was thinking of for the cover, but there have been many.. There is a orange one around I have seen too.

A buddy of mine runs a diesel shop that does all sorts of crazy stuff. They swapped a 12v into a chrysler new yorker. Pretty much anything is possible with how much $$$$ you want to spend

I'd just like to find a shop that has done one before for my peice of mind and have a rough idea on the cost before I go full force into it and then find out it's gunna be 15'000 to do it

You may not be able to find a shop that's done this exact cut before.. but look for a shop that's done megacab long bed conversions. They'd be familiar with frame cutting and welding working on dodge's, suspension, fuel tanks, all that. And probably have acres of shortbeds sitting around they can't get rid of lol.

I cant image this whole thing costing more than 10k, including the lift. It should be no more than 5k to swap the bed I would think? I don't know what a late model bed assembly costs, I just ballparked around 1k bucks.

Really the only thing you need to know is where to cut... you would need to compare a standard bed frame vs a long bed and make sure to remove the correct area, from there this is cake.

Any custom truck shop that does frame work and stock floor body drops can do this, you would need to research whats popular now days. Back in the day... silver star, little shop of horrors, Totally Polished, etc were all big in the mini truckin scene. This is in a drop in the bucket for what they normally do.

Same with offroad shops, if they can do the mega cab work or extending a jeep in either direction then they can handle this.
