Using any of the other popular pricing sites like TrueCar or Edmunds displays invoice pricing for most vehicles. Invoice pricing is no longer as valuable a piece of info as it used to be as there are so many manufacturer discount programs for dealers that consumers don’t see - based on region, vehicle type, sales volume, etc. dealer holdbacks in other words. Invoice price only serves as a starting point for price negotiations these days.

Dealer invoice numbers vary from dealer to dealer. The higher the volume sold, the better the dealer's price paid to FCA.

Just FYI, places like true car are paid by the dealer...

Thats not true, truecar sells leads to dealers that want to capture the customers who like the no no nonsense price. I run a dealership, we have no sway to the pricing they give.

Truecar is 99% accurate on giving an invoice price in my experience.

WilliamS, Isn't selling leads to a dealer the definition of being paid by the dealer?

Not even close, its like saying you paid walmart to sell you a TV? Your implying the dealer pays truecar to "create" prices which isnt the case at all. Customers find trust in different websites like Truecars, purecars, autotrader, or the biggest rip off Carmax. If they are happy with a value of a 3rd party website pricing why wouldnt I want to capture that customer? Truecars pricing has no weight from the dealer, they post the pricing and discounts that can be found. I as a GM cant tell Truecar to make a different value, or artificial costs, they provide the data to the customer with or without our input.

false. dealer invoice pricing is the same across the country, with some minor exceptions being large metropolitan areas paying a slight premium charge (the NJ surcharge, for example). even freight is the same everywhere in the country, which sucks for the people who live close to the manufacturer and are paying $1,645 for a truck that was built right down the street.

this is also false. TrueCar dealers absolutely have a say in what price is displayed to the customer based on what they have their invoice offset set to in the truecar portal. if you're only being shown leads based on market conditions, you're not paying to be a truecar certified dealer.

Still wrong, we have a say in how much my car is advertised for, but I have no say so on the invoice amount, msrp, or what the cars are selling for in the market. I can make my price $10000 over msrp on some crap car, that doesnt mean truecars website will make my car any better, or adjust the pricing they show the customer as a good deal.

i'm not disputing that, but you said that you can't control what pricing a customer sees on a vehicle. that is incorrect, since you have control over your invoice offset and default aftermarkets in the truecar portal. this will change the price that "ABC Dodge" displays for that vehicle.

Correct but that doesn’t change true car already showed them invoice. The only part of truecar I do not like as I don’t care if you know invoice, it just cuts to the chase because millennial don’t have a clue on negotiating but if you pick my car as the car you like and fill out the info, every ford dealer gets your info regardless if you even have that car, and then the charge whatever dealer sells them. It’s a catch 22 but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I miss the old days of bs’ing with a guy all day till we agree we’re all in, that was fun and I never came away without a new friend

The only fun we have now is messing with people who come in and play by the "I learned how to buy a car online" program. We always love those people, no trade, only want to pay cash, blah blah blah, then parachute in the trade, think they deserve a certain APR. Those people are always the ones I make the most on.

Am I proud of it sometimes no, but if you going to walk in and act like you know something best of luck to your arrogant attitude. Ill happily give a nice person with a good attitude a great deal before I give some millennial self deserved idiot a dime.

All I know is that I used Truecar, USAA, Costco, Consumer Reports. True car gave me a price that was much below the others and the dealer didn’t want to honor at first. I am a true believer in True Car after this.

Also tried Dillon. Found them to be manipulative, deceptive and more expensive than True Car.

Yep, in fact a dealer told me NOT to use TrueCar to research prices on his dealership, because he had to pay them $299 if the lead came from them. If you did, he just tacked $299 into your deal (or gave you that much less of a discount).

Yea, and you, the dealer pay truecar about $299 if a lead comes to you while someone is researching online. Also, dealers on the true car program have to give true car access to their sales data as well.
