I’ve got quite a predicament. My 2017 Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi with 84k miles had the transmission go out about a month ago. Of course the powertrain warranty had expired, so I paid a good local shop to replace the transmission with a remanufactured Jasper 66RFE transmission. I picked it up two weeks...
Thank you for the advice. I did in fact crawl under the truck myself and located the fitting. That, however, did nothing to prove to the dealership that they were incorrect. Now I have documentation of the situation in the event I have any trouble in the future.
I may not have handled it the...
That is entirely possible. However, the service manager did tell me that if anyone ever tries to tell me in the future that the truck does not have a grease fitting, just to ask for him. Not ideal, but at least maybe with enough time the service advisers and technicians will learn.
UPDATE! SITUATION RESOLVED!!!!
I did finally receive an e-mail back from Chrysler Customer Care on Monday 11/12/18 with the following response:
Kris,
Thank you for contacting FCA US LLC.

2017 Ram 2500 4x4 trucks with the double cardan front driveshaft have a grease...
Yes, my 2017 6.4 does the same thing. Dealership said it’s normal. Granted it’s the same dealership that says the front driveshaft doesn’t need to be lubed, so I don’t fully trust everything they say. Mine has done it from day 1.
No kidding. I sent an email to customer service on Monday for written confirmation of whether or not the lubrication is required. Upon submission I received a confirmation of submission stating I would receive a reply within one day. Here it is Thursday, and still not response.
Overall I’ve...
I can’t speak to whether the MDS Is bad for the engine, but mine does switch seamlessly between 4 and 8 cylinder mode.
I will say, the harder I drive the truck, the less the MDS activates.
I can only speak from experience with my truck as it's the only 6.4 I've driven, but mine switches back to 8 cylinder mode almost immediately upon starting up a hill. It switches before I can detect a change in speed or see any change to the speedometer. I've had no problems with it switching...
I agree with you. I could have done it multiple times myself rather than inquire of the dealership and FCA, and that may be the route I end up taking, although it sure would be nice for the dealership and FCA to perform the correct maintenance for all of the other people out there who rely on...
I actually did a chat session with Mopar customer service and saved the chat record. Based on their response, it sounds like it's not just the dealerships that are misinformed, but also their customer service. Here's a portion of the chat transcript:
Alexander (10/25/2018, 2:08:31 PM): As it...
Thanks everyone for the responses! I like Jimmy07's advice on taking it back, because I want it done right. I'm thinking I'll probably get under there and try to find the fitting myself before I take it in, just so I can know for certain it's there before I push them on it.
Good afternoon,
I'm new to the site, but have done several searches and have not found anyone else commenting with the same experience I'm having. I bought a 2017 Ram 2500 4x4 6.4 Hemi in October 2016. I now have 33,000 miles on it and have just had the fourth oil change completed by the...
