I want to integrate a sub in my RAM 1500. I’m looking for good sound nothing competition or blasting power. I have been looking at the Sundown SD-3 12” sub because I think my Alpine MRV-M500 will do fine with it. The problem is to find an enclosure that meets the requirements. I have been looking at the FOX Acoustic single sub sealed and ported. The sealed box has .95 cubic feet and the SD-3 requires 1.0 cubic feet. Does the .05 cubic feet make a difference? The ported box is 1.85 cubic feet and the SD-3 requires 1.75 cubic feet. The porter box meets the space requirement plus .10 cubic feet that I think the sub displacement will utilize. But the Fox 12” ported box is tuned to 36hz and the SD-3 requires 32hz. How this difference in tuning will affect the sound? Can I make any of these 2 boxes work fine with the SD-3 sub? I’m leaning toward the fox box because I don’t want at this point spend too much in an enclosure and for the price it seems to be alright. The rest of my system includes an Alpine MRV-F300 powering a set of JL Audio C2-650 6.5” Component for the front and JL Audio C2-690tx 6x9 in the back doors. No DSP or active set up for now. Thanks, will appreciate any thoughts.

I believe those subs are on the list of recommended subs for fox box on their site.

In the sealed, you could add a little polyfill to make up the slight difference if it really bothers you. I don’t think .1 cuft is going to make that much difference.

On the ported enclosure you could glue in a wood block to take up the extra space. I don’t know enough about boxes to know how placement of a block would affect the sound.

I want to know what grills those half moon cutouts are for, I’ve emailed fox a dozen times they don’t care about me now that I have the box. It looks like it will fit one of 3 bar types but which one!

Look o at 4 and 10’oclock around the woofers there are intentional cutouts, they just have to be for a 3 bar style grill. I think they measure 13 7/8 inches but I can’t figure out on amazon which ones they are for.

ahhh, I see. I couldn't put anything there, not with these woofers anyway.

Most of them are tall enough for high excursion and only have a footprint of 3/8 inch I just want to give my type s some room to enjoy themselves.

Also how are you enjoying the sun downs I just couldn’t buy a brand I’ve never heard in person before I was heart torn between the type S and the Fosgate P3

I like the SA12 a lot. Reminds me of the idmax 12...it can def get rowdy, but be pretty musical as well. Is that a vented Foxbox or a sealed box??

After displacement, that sub should fit just fine in the ported enclosure. It should sound just fine tuned to 36hz. I had a similar situation but with just a 10". I wound up getting an RE Audio for mine and it sounds good. Im sure the sd3 will sound just fine in that enclosure as well.

I don’t know about his, but I have the ported and it does not mess around. Best $250 bucks I have invested in my sound system.

Yea, the SA12 does very well and prefers a ported enclosure, kinda wondering how it responds to a sealed enclosure. Im sure it handcuffs it a bit, but that might not be a deal breaker
