I have a 2015 Ram Crew Cab 4x4 with the V6 and a 8 Speed auto with about 10k miles
runs great lots of power I get about 23-24mpg. Compaired to my 2005 Big Horn Ram Hemi with 3.92 gears , the new truck with a V6 is close 2nd no the new one will not tow as much asMy old truck. Maintenance cost will be much less 6 plugs at 100k miles vs 16 at 40 k miles in the Hemi. 7 quart oils changes in the Hemi standard 4.5 in the V6. I am not knocking anybody’s truck the new Ram with the V6 is great for me it will haul all I need plus it’s a great daily driver

I am no tech expert but my last Hemi (14) and newest Hemi (15) requires plugs to be pulled at 100,000 miles and for me oil is a once a year thing so the additional 2.5 quarts amounts to peanuts luckily. The last plug change for me was back in approximately 1988 so here again happy as a sailor on leave visiting his first ***** house.:happy107:

I have a cc, 3.55 4x4 v6. I tow several times a week with no issues.

It moves well enough. Remember, this engine makes the same or more power than a typical v8 from ten years ago. It kills the old 3.7 all around and Iike it better than the old 4.7

Michigan to Tennessee doing 70-85mph the whole way got me 24.1 mpg according to the evic, 23mpg hand calculated. That's 5 people and our luggage, half of it mountains.

I have owned 3 4th Gen Rams.

2010 CC 2WD Big Horn with Hemi (Sold for 4WD)
2011 CC 4WD Sport with Hemi (Sold because 11.5 MPG and 32 gal gas tank don't mix!)

I then went to a 2011 V6 Grand Cherokee with intentions of waiting until used 1500 Diesels became less expensive. I couldn't wait to get back into a truck any longer and got the following:

2014 CC 4WD Big Horn with V6 (just bought a few months ago)

I LOVE THE V6!!!! I am getting better MPG then the jeep and I don't feel like I am missing any power. It is peppy enough off the line, and I don't feel I am left exposed when merging onto a highway. If given the chance again I would pick the V6 100 times out of 100.

I have not done any massive towing, just 18 foot boat and smaller camper/popups. No issues.

Bought my 2013 Ram 1500 SLT CC 4x4 new with the v6/8spd/3.21. I have a bit over 26k miles on it now with no issues.

Moved 2x in a year with the back seat, bed and a 5x8 U-Haul fully loaded (1 bdrm apt's worth). Each move was approximately 600 miles averaging 65-75 mph without issue (VA to IN to SC). Is it a hemi, no, but it does everything I need it to do as a daily driver and gets damn good mph for my driving style.
I haven't owned a Hemi, but I have the V6 and very happy with it.
I actually traded a 2013 1500 Express 4x4 CC Hemi/6spd back into the dealer after 4 months (3k mi) for the V6 SLT because of the 3-5 mpg difference in essentially the same truck... And made $3k off the Express. The express was certainly a bit more fun to drive, but the v6 has been good for me.

If it had been a hemi/8spd truck, then I would have kept it.

My normal is 3-4k. My car hauler, loaded comes in about 5k and I pull it no problem. I have pulled a 30' travel trailer a couple of times, it pulled no problem but obviously isn't ideal for that.

This evening I was merging onto the freeway and had to step on it to avoid traffic. I've never had to put my foot into it that much yet and I went from going 20 to 80 in about two seconds. The Pentastar is really smooth and powerful.

This is from MI to TN and back. Highway was 65-75 through Ohio and 75-85 everywhere else. All of my TN driving was stop and go, stuck in traffic or painfully slow through the mountains. The EVIC was 1.6mpg optimistic for the entire trip after hand-calculating.

For the entire trip I came in at 21.8mpg.

I towed a 6x10 enclosed trailer 3300 kms in June. It was pretty loaded as well as the truck bed and no problems. The further east I got the hillier it got and the Pentastar v6 didn't skip a beat. I'm wishing now I had gotten a CC but here in Canada the Pentastar isn't available in a CC with 6.4 bed, only the 5.7 bed. I would have to order a Hemi or eco desiel. The extra room in a CC would have been nice when friends come along for a ride.

A side benefit to the Pentastar - greatest payload of all 1500 Rams.

The Pentastar is a great engine. How you use the vehicle will determine if it is "best". Personally, I'm very happy I went with the Pentastar but I have a short bed regular cab and I don't tow. I do carry about 500-800lbs with me for work at all times. I notice no difference between loaded and unloaded performance. Just did a 500 mile trip over Labor Day weekend and averaged 25.4 MPG in the mountains on 2-lane roads.

We went hiking upon on Mt. Rainier. Saturday drove to around 6400ft from sea level @ the Sunrise visitors center. We spent the day hiking then drove to the nearest hotel which was back down near sea level. Then we visited Mount St. Helens and drove up to the blast zone. The visitors center there is around 4400 ft on Johnsons Ridge. Then drove back through the foothills staying in Elbe, WA at the Rainier Train hotel.

It was a great weekend but racked up the miles. I'm due for a tire rotation and my oil life monitor is <35% so I'm buying oil/filter this week.
