2001 1500 shift cable adjustment

I've searched the web, YouTube, and on here and can't come up with a procedure to adjust or check the adjustment of the auto trans shifter/shift cable for my 2001 Ram 1500 4WD. Any help? Ultimately I want to check the park/neutral safety switch because the back up lights only work when I play with the shifter. I want to rule out an improperly adjusted shift cable before switch replacement.

Check your spring and linkage on the driverside of the transmission just above the pan. Make sure the spring is good and a little tight and that there's no excess play in the linkage

There doesn't seem to be excessive play, but there is a little slack in the cable. Should there be any slack? How do you take up the slack, bend the tab?

Mine has very slight slack in the cable as well.

Use electron cleaner on the plug for the neutral safety switch. If the switch was bad you'd have more than just lights not coming on
