I’m about 60% of the way through with the stitching. My stitching method, along with having poked twice as many holes, is making it a bit tedious, but I feel the results will be worth it. I’ve got to sit in a line for COVID testing tomorrow, so figured it’ll be the perfect time to stitch on my steering wheel. Here’s my progress thus far.

What's your stitching method and how did you punch the holes? I'm about to do one. I also found a complete leather cover that cover the spokes so you cut the factory one off

I use what is called a baseball stitch. It helps if you get some curved needles. If you really want to go all out, you could get some premium thread, such as Ritza. To poke the extra holes, I used my hand sewing rotary punch (Tandy p/n 3229-00). If you could send me a link to the kit you are planning to use, I would be quite interested to see it.

I am using a 3rd Gen steering wheel and might use the dash to unsure. But the 3rd gen wheel needs rewrapped and I found these and they sell them for both the 2nd and 3rd gens.

That’s really nice. I might have bought that if I knew it was out there. When this current cover starts to get worn, I’ll see if that’s still an option.
I found them on complete accident. Because what I did was cut the old leather wrap off and then realized WheelSkins only cover the band. So I started searching and saw this in Google images

I’ve always been disappointed in my reverse lamps when I’ve had to back up in a really dark place like off-road. I don’t run into that situation all that frequently though, so I wanted to try an easy fix before going so far as to put on external reverse lamps. The purist in me is not a fan of LED bulbs on classic trucks, but I’m making an exception here since they are hidden by the lenses. I first tried a set of Sylvania Zevo bulbs. I normally like Sylvania products, but they are not good for reverse lamps. They aim the wrong direction. They were a brighter color of white, but honestly less effective than the old style incandescent bulbs. I ordered another set of bulbs from Auxito to give them a try. They have a big lens on them that aims the light straight out the back of the truck. Much better. I look forward to seeing how they look in a really dark place.

In the course of replacing those reverse lamps, I had my driver side tail light assembly (which already had a small crack in it) break. I looked at repairing it, but it was starting to crack internally, too, so I decided to order a new set. I bought a matching pair from JP Auto... I have to say they are quite a disappointment. They don’t fit the curvature of the body which leaves a large gap on the bottom. Also, when studied next to the originals, they just look kinda cheap. I submitted a request to return them for a refund. Hopefully they don’t give me trouble about it.

Has anyone here replaced their tail lights and been really pleased with the fit and quality of a certain brand?

Clearly not the same shape...

I really appreciate that. That would be awesome. I’ve been searching online. The originals are discontinued. If it comes down to it, I have found some NOS parts in a different color, and I would just have to paint them white. Probably what I should’ve done from the start, but I was fooled by good reviews and decided to try the aftermarket ones. The manufacturer on those crappy ones was Depo, for anyone who is wondering.

If you still want these just let me know where to ship them to. I'll take $10 plus shipping.
A big thanks to Joe W! I replaced my broken tail light assembly last night. With a little clean up, it was in really good condition for the age of the part. Had just enough light patina to match the rest of my truck nicely. I’m pleased as hell. I also did a temporary fix on the part of my paint that was chipped underneath the lamp. It’s definitely not a finished repair, but enough to prevent it from rusting anymore until I eventually get a paint job. Looks a lot better from 10 feet away than it did before. @ Spike95, your post just saved me $50,000. I bought my 1999 Ram 1500 Sport, brand new. It has been my daily driver and as such, was often neglected. I retired this year and decided to buy a new truck...Sticker shock. As I was weighing the pros and cons of buying a new truck or completely rebuilding my 1999, I came across your thread. The issues you are dealing with are the same as mine. As my build has just begun, I will be following the forum for any additional information.
