My somewhat new-to-me 2010 makes a very audible clicking noise from the engine/front end of the truck, but only when it is not moving. It is one single, fairly loud click, that repeats about every 13 seconds or so, and only while the vehicle is stationary as far as I can tell, but maybe I only hear it when I'm not moving. Doesn't seem to make a difference if the truck is in park, neutral or drive, brakes or no brakes. Not sure how long it's been doing this, I think I only just started noticing it because I've had the windows down. Almost sounds electrical, like a relay or something. Truck seems to drive fine otherwise.

I don't recall it doing this when I test drove and bought it a few months ago. It's pretty annoying.

Video: watch the whole thing, first click at 0:13, next at 0:26, then at 0:39...

Sounds like ac compressor clutch kicking in and out.

It does, actually. Since the video above was taken with the a/c off, I went ahead and cycled the a/c on and off a few times. Now it no longer does it when the a/c is off, but still does it constantly when the a/c is on. Is this normal? A/c blows cold. And weird that it was doing it with the a/c off. The really weird thing, now that I think about it is, just today I felt a cold breeze inside the cab for a bit, even though the light for the a/c was not lit, and I didn't turn the a/c on. Hmmm...strange.

I'm not sure how much the AC compressor runs when ac is actually off. I know it cycles with the defrosters. With all this climate controls and split zones and all this fancy stuff I have no clue as to how much it actually runs. I know with AC in normal operation that it cycles and in max AC it stays on but other than that IDK.

+1 - Agree. sounds like A/C kicking in and out. Could be low on freon or a pressure switch is going bad on the unit itself. Would check freon first. Orwhatever these truck suse today, instead of froen.

Max ac just means that the recirculating door is closed and it’s using in cab air instead of having to cool hot outside air. The ac clutch should not stay on all the time, it should be cycling every 20-30 seconds depending on conditions. The compressor kicks on with defrost on also, that’s to dry out the humidity inside cab. Hope this helps.

There’s a guy on here that knows about ac systems, he goes by the name (Captain Freon) hope he chimes in and corrects any info.

The clutch could be weak or it can be low on oil charge. When you use the defroster and or recirculate buttons it cycles the a/c to help keep the Freon circulated to help prevent leakage.
