2012 Ram 3500 Laramie 4 x 2

Thinking of purchasing this truck. But I am having a hard time figuring out towing capacity of this truck. I have seen numbers from 12000 to 28000. The rear axle is 3.73 and I think from what I have found the capacity is 13,850#

per my owners manual,

manual trans is 14,050 towing, 5,050 cargo/payload

Automatic trans is 22,700 towing, 5,130 cargo/payload

but you need to go by the sticker on the door to see the actual payload rating, then do the math from there to find max towing

TRCM is right. Your truck has a couple of ratings here that have to be considered.

First is GCVWR - Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating: This is your truck with fuel, passengers & gear + the weight of your towed vehicle. You should not exceed that number.

Second is the GVWR - Gross Vehicle Weight Rating - This is your truck loaded with fuel, passenger, gear and tongue weight or pin weight.

Lastly is your payload rating, i.e., your truck empty plus fuel, gear, cargo and passengers.

The best way to get those numbers are to google 2012 Dodge Ram Body Builder's Guide. It will have a table showing you your specific ratings depending on powertrain, gearsets, SRW vs. DRW, etc...

Well this sucks, Dealership cant or wont sell truck because of this:

#T79 BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK
Status: Remedy not yet available

Anyone ever hear of this??

Just pulled it up... ouch, almost 1.5M vehicles need to be checked ! It only affects column shifters, yay dreaded 8 speed shift dial.

But yes, dealers are not supposed to sell vehicles with outstanding safety recalls.
