Hey everybody,
I have a 2015 RAM 1500 5.7 and I was looking to get a set of shorty headers for my truck. On BBK's website they say theirs do fit the 2wd and 4wd but I have been reading that people can not get them to fit on the 4wd driver's side. I sent BBK an email yesterday and this is their response;
"From what I’ve heard the OEM exhaust manifold is the same as the 2014 model so it should fit fine, however, we have not had a 2015 in here to confirm 100% yet."

Do I believe the customer relations manager at BBK or should I run away?

P.S. I know LTH are better but I don't want to shell out that much money just yet.

Thanks for the help.

I just put a set of bbk's on my 09 4x4. The machanic said it was a tight fit and he had to take the starter off and a motor mount. I don't know the difference between the 09 and 15.

Save your money... and do it right the first time... LTH

I did shorties first and regret the money I wasted.

Hey Talon,
Can you explain your position a little further? Im considering headers as I remember how much I loved the Edlebrock shorty headers / Borla Exhaust Combo I had on my old Avalanche. The HP gains were pretty good and I loved the combined sound. It was aggressive when you wanted it to be but otherwise limited cabin drone. I always thought LTH were more for the serious racer who was less concerned about noice and more concerned with Speed.

Shorties on these trucks only show about 8-12hp gains. Longtubes give 25-30hp/tq gains and those gains are seen across a wider rpm band as well. There is no question that longtubes put shorties to shame on this motor.

The only reason I would put a shorty header on this motor is if you have a cracked stock manifold and you are out of warranty. Otherwise, you are much better off saving for longtubes, or putting that money towards another mod.

Thanks for the response. Makes sense. is it true in the case of the 1500 that long tubes will result in a louder exhaust note? And, will long tubes require you to remove the Cat?

Thought long gave increases in HP at high rpm's and shorties at low RPM's? I drive mostly at low to mid. Reply soon :(

I would not put shorties on my own truck.

What have you done to your truck so far? What gears do you have? Are you 2wd or 4wd?

RoyRam, I don't know if your question is directed to me but if so, I've done nothing. I have not made up my mind yet as to if I want to upgrade. Just looking into it at this point. If I did do it, I'd first do a CA I then dyno, cat back then dyno, headers then dyno.

OBX headers are an option if you're on a budget.

I wonder if these come with the y pipe that's shown with the headers?

Yes the ypipe is included, there's a few members that have bought the obx headers. I haven't seen any post install threads with fitment, quality, etc.

I'm curious as to why the obx headers and y pipe is such a big difference in price vs the jba system

Its just because they are made in China. ARH are made in the USA, and JBA are made in Mexico. OBX typically just knocks off other companies work and sends it to China to be manufactured for less.

I know what you mean. OBX offers a lot of header for the money, but I just have a problem with the way they copy other manufacturers work.

I have American Racing Long tubes, no cats, to H pipe and Flowmaster American Thunder mufflers on my LS3 Camaro and I'm very happy with it.

I'd go with American Racing or Kooks! If I end up keeping this truck long term (my daily driver) I may go long tubes, no cats, to a Corsa system.

A few folks have responded to the shorty's question.... I don't think they really do squat unless you want a little extra sound and a better looking header on your rig.

That would never pass inspection in NY.
