2018 3500 HO, SRW, limited, mega. I've owned my truck for 1.5 yrs. Installed the following items, few Banks products-air intake w/ filter, intake horn deleting grid heater, banks inter-cooler kit, Calibrated Power Tunes, 52 gallon fuel tank, Amsoil by-pass filter and bed cap. Full oem emissions intact!

This past weekend was my first long trip with the truck only not pulling my RV. 4 passenger, full fuel tank and lots of luggage. When I'm not towing I run on the race tune or setting 4.

Round trip from NJ to Pittsburg PA, 659 miles round trip. 1st leg we drove straight through no stops. 2nd leg coming home only stopped once for food. 95% of the trip was all highway with cruise control on 75 mph. My dash as shown in pic says I averaged 22.7 mpg. Yes I know this dash mpg can't be trusted but it's the only numbers I use.. so keeping it apples to apples. My question is, what are other seeing on the highway without stops. This seems too high to me. Is it possible the tune program falsely changes mpg on the dash? thoughts? thanksScreen Shot 2023-11-06 at 2.39.35 PM.png

My dash average mpg has read as high as 24.x, tank average as high as 25.x driving back and forth to work, 35-40 minute drive on max 55mph roads. Driving on the expressway for 3-4 hours, I've seen it in the 22-23 mpg range.

So I'd say you didn't really gain or lose anything in the mpg area.

I just logged about 22.5ish coming back from GA. Bone stock, no deletes.

glad to hear the tunes don't mess with dash mpg. Didn't know all 6.7 trucks logs 22-23 mpg on road trips. who knew! thanks

Not all do.... my 2016 3500 rarely saw over 17 pre-delete. Gear ratio and speed have a lot to do with it. I went from 4.10s in the 3500 to 3.42s in the 2018. Big difference in rpm at 70 mph.

True this. I have 3.73's and I don't really speed much. Others run 80+ on the e-way and can't get anywhere close to what others do.

Tuning absolutely will change the calibrations used to calculate the mpg, You need to hand calculate it if you want the real number. Mine is typically 2.5-4 mpg off.

My “lie-o-meter” also is close to 2 mpg off. I think I’m getting 23-24 mpg on the highway when not towing with my 2500 and standard output Cummins when I hand calculate.

@RAS NJ Jay from Banks here. We know you have a lot of choices when it comes to RAM upgrades and we appreciate you choosing Banks. Regarding the fuel economy. I've forwarded your post to our engineers. The first thing they requested is to see if you'd be willing to run the same test with the tune set to stock. That way the comparison it's closer to apple to apples.

Why not just simply take how many miles you drove and divide it by how many gallons it took to fill it back up? I feel like im being a a$shat suggesting it, but im really not trying to be. Just curious why you wouldnt…if you really wanna know what kind of mpg’s you are getting.

I can't speak to OP's reasoning, but mine is because I'm just not that worried about it. I used to calculate it all the time, just to keep an eye on it and look for any sudden drops that couldn't be explained. Now, I'm not worried.

sorry you fell for the Banks hype...
Ditto...I don't know how those people sleep at night after taking your money. My '21 SRW HO Aisin gets 20mpg highway, on a good day. However....It only burns .6gal per hour at idle with the A/C on, when you're sleeping in it. :)

I have the standard cummins and I can easily get over 20 MPG highway. I tracked the real MPG compared to the computer for about a year and found the computer was always about 1 MPG high.

Yep, i hand calculated every fillup for a few years straight with my half ton 5.7 ram, comparing it to the computer readout each time. If i remember correctly, the average over the duration was the computer reading just over 1mpg more than actual.

Not fair. My '19 HO Cummins dually w/ 4.10 gears only gets around 15 highway.

Jay from Banks. I would be happy but no 660 mile road trip planned in the near future. Not stopping for fuel also helps a lot. I record on stock setting when I can

2022 3500 Dually with 4.10s and HO Cummins. Without a load of hunting rigs on the trailer and camper for hunting I get as much as 18.5 mpg. I'm at 15,000 miles on the truck now. Of course with camper, trailer and M37s or W350s I have gotten down to 7 mpg in a serious Wyoming headwind. When is there not wind in Wyoming. I don't worry about accuracy of the range or mpg readings as I figure they're there for general reference. The range I've had readout with mpg up around 18 or 18.5 and filling the 50 gallon tank I have gotten a range reading of over 820 miles.

I average around 10.5-11 l/100km in similar conditions.. Which would be around 22 mpg. 2016, 3500, 6.7 HO, deleted. Aisin transmission, 3.42 gears, Crew cab short box. 285/60/R20 wheels, 55psi.

Guys, I made a Fuel Consumption Calculator in an Excel spreadsheet to keep from calculating everytime I get fuel, and its a nifty way to keep an accurate history.
Yall are welcome to download and use as you see fit. You can just zero out my recordings and enter your own.
All you need to keep up with each time you refuel is your Total Cost, Total Gallons, and Odometer; ive built formulas into the spreadsheet that calculates your Average MPG and Cost Per Gallon.
I have a company fuel card and I sometimes get 5 Gal. for my lawn mower, Jeep, or 4 wheeler. I didnt want to look greedy or like a thief so I made this to know when to say "No Free Fuel This Week!"
