Hello everyone, I just bought a 2015 1500 Outdoorsman Ram with the 5.7 Hemi with the famous lifter tick. I got a great deal on the truck so I figured why not, buy it and just put a lower mileage engine in it. The truck has 210k on it but it's very clean, no body dents or rust I can see so with that, I made the purchase. I started searching for engines and found one out of a 2022 with 17k on it. Not knowing if that was compatible with my 2015, I made some calls to local yards for some insight. I have gotten more than one answer whether it is compatible or not. One place says I can use from years 2013 thru 2022, and the other says only from 2013 thru 2016. Who is right?
My truck has the Hemi with the 8spd in it and really nice 3.92 gears (going 35's). Can someone help me figure this out please,
Thank you.
Ryan

If no missfire drive it until it does. You should also upload a vid of it running so we can determien if its actually a lifter.

car-part.com list 2022-2013 as being compatible for the 2015
2019-2022 engines would need to be from the classic version Ram.

Troubleshoot what you got and take it from there, get a good scanner or take it to autozone for a free scan, take note the newer ram 5th gen starting in 2019 need a security bypass cable to access the OBD11 software, give us an audio so we can help you troubleshoot, maybe the lower end of the engine is still in good shape seeing the rest of the truck is in good shape.

I bought a complete engine with 60k on it from the car-parts place listed above. I will swap it out probably this coming weekend and then start using the Redline oil that's been talked about. Maybe even go with some shorty headers while it's out so there is no exhaust bolt issues after.

You probably don't want to hear this, but if it's a used engine with 60K i'd be yanking the heads off it,and checking the lifters over close for abnormal wear.Way easier to do while the engines on the ground, then when it's in the truck
I was thinking the same thing while its out head gaskets and bolts are cheap you could save yourself future bs if you see a lifter in early stages of wear while engine is 60k you dont know the idle hours.

I was also pondering the same, Hope it's not out of a 5th gen for his sake because of the security bypass!!!

It's from a 2014. Plus it comes with a warranty.
Even if it comes with a warrenty,do you want to actually go through the labour and lost time of swapping another engine in if it has a bad cam.
It's not a hard engine to swap, but it's definitely not like swapping a small block in a 74 Chebby pick-up where 1 guy could swap the engine in 4 hours by himself

Do you guys think I should go ahead and buy some shorty headers? Are they worth the hype?
