Wasn't sure whether or not to post this in Towing or Lifted, but figured Lifted was more appropriate as I anticipated some answers in the Towing forum possibly saying to check with the guys who have lifts...
I'm finding conflicting information in various forums and websites so wanted to get some clarification. My 2014 1500 4x4 Express currently has a level kit and 255/75R20 (31.9" diameter) and the receiver is about 18.5" from the ground. This week I'm having the level kit removed, a 6" suspension lift installed, as well as 35s. If my math is correct this will raise the receiver roughly 9" higher than it currently sits at, which would bring it to about 27.5" off the ground.
I'm taking a road trip this weekend to pick up a 22' boat, I'm told the trailer coupler is about 16.5" from the ground to the center of the ball area. Based on the instructions here I would need an 11" drop hitch. Seems like an awful lot. I've seen posts on some forums with folks who have the same or very similar setup (6" lift and 35s) who use 6" or even 8" and reportedly have been perfectly fine. The boat and trailer will probably not weigh more than 3,500 lbs total, if it matters.
My question is for anyone with the same or similar lift and tire setup, who tows, what size drop hitch do you use? I have a 560 mile drive/tow home with the boat, so I want to make sure I get it right. Need something by the end of the week. Thanks in advance as always for all the helpful input the members of this forum provide!
