Hey folks, I'm new here I would appreciate any help you could give me. I Have a '98 plow truck, Idles fine for the first 20 mins of use. Then it won't idle when i let of the accelerator to shift gear. Any ideas? Is it something an old fart with little mechanic ability can fix. Don't have much money:(

Thank you,
David

MAybe have the throttle body cleaned, check the connections for the idle air control valve, clean the idle air control valve. Get some throttle body/carb cleaner and cleaner for the electrical components/sensors. CRC makes spray cleaners for all of this.

Throw a couple off cans of fuel system cleaner in the gas tank as well. When cold the truck runs at higher RPM and has a fuel enrichment circuit. When it gets hot, that circuit is not in play, and the idle RPM drops. Failure to idle hot is usually a fuel issue, rarely electrical, however when was the last time you changed the plugs. When did this failure to idle start and did you make any changes just before that.
