Well, I got started on it at 3:40am on Saturday and was really unorganized but I made some progress.
First thing I did was pulled the back seats out to remove the storage bin lids and add the seat risers that fox acoustics sends with their enclosure.
The bolts were almost impossible to get out with a ratchet. Had to get out the big guns.
That's more like it!
Got it vacuumed up and added the seat risers.
I even pulled out the front seats. Still not sure why, but I got to vacuum the carpet under it.
Then I got started on the stereo.
From the posts I've read, you just remove these and the dash comes off. Not so in my case! There was a bolt hidden behind the plastic around my outlet plug.
Used a 9/32 to get the 4 stereo bolts off and out she came.
Matched the plug to the new harness.
Got the wires soldered together and shrink wrapped.
And when I went back into my shop, there was something waiting for me at the door.
After that little scare, I hooked up the stereo just to make sure it was working properly.
and yes it was!
After this I had to take my dog to the groomer and get breakfast with my fiancé so progress was hindered a little.
Upon my return, I hung a wire down through my dash and coming out the passenger side of the cup holder. That's my passing wire. I taped 3 sets of RCAs, amp control wire, reverse cam, usb and aux cord, and Bluetooth mic to the cable and pulled it through.
Then I decided to place my Bluetooth mic next to my speedometer. So I took off the plastic under the steering wheel.
And after some fishing, I got the mic up
Then I got started on the stereo hole. Don't judge my order of operations. Lol I was so scattered. But luckily I had compressed air to make my life easier. I cut out the top of the metal bracket to open up room for that big double din.
Then I made cuts through the sides at the midway point. This is to allow the dash to spread open a little more to accommodate the double din.
Then pulled of door panels. Plenty of instruction on this forum on how to do this.
Old vs new
The back door rubber grommet thing is a complete nightmare. There's about enough room in it for the wires that are already there. Lots of sweat and pain trying pass 14ga wire from one end to the other. I used a length from a clothes hanger. Stuck the hanger through and then duct taped my wire to the end and "finessed" it through. Biggest pain in the butt ever.
took multiple tries on either side.
Then I ran into another pickle. Had nowhere to go with the wire! So I drilled a hole through the plastic of the rubber piece bolted to the door.
Finally able to solder and install the speakers! So glad to be done with that!
By this time I was completely dehydrated and lacking energy so I called it a day, got everything back together, and went to dinner. Only my front door and dash speakers are running but those new kickers are fantastic! Sorry for no pics on the 3.5's but I just got too anxious a few days prior and swapped them out real quick. There is plenty of info on here to explain swapping the 3.5's out. At dinner I started cramping in both hamstrings and calves. Drink water people! My shop was an oven. Will continue later. Amp kit next. Then installing the front door speakers and deciding how bad I want those tweeters in the sails. My inner laziness is getting to me.
more to come later!
