Bed cover, does it have any affect on mpg?

Do you mean the full bed cap or a tonneau cover. The full cap weighs considerably more so the weight would hamper your mileage a bit. The tonneau according to some will help mileage.

I noticed a little bit better acceleration that was it.

I did not notice any change on my side after adding a soft - tonneau cover.

Mythbusters did this test and they say the gas mileage was a tad lower once installed. I will have the body coloured fibreglass tonneau installed shortly and with doing this twice before I found the mileage stayed the same.
