I'm new to the forum and took delivery of a 1500 express about a week ago. I love the truck but one thing is bugging me that I hope is something I'm doing wrong.
When the radio is off, it's completely dark, no clock no nothing. I find myself leaving the radio on and the volume off when I don't want to listen to it just to have a clock. Is there a setting or is that just the way it is?
Great forum, looking forward to hanging out.

My time also appears in the DIC (in the instrument cluster). There are some setting in there to make it do that.

Not sure what radio you have but in the rhb-430n you hit the menu hard key, select system setup, select clock set, there your find check box to display clock when radio off.

Mine is the base radio, in the clock set menu the only other option is to display in 24 hour time.

Is it just the instrument panel lights are dimmed down or something more complicated.

I'm starting to think its just not a feature thats included with the basic radio

I know in the 1st gen lx chrysler/dodge cars the clock on the radio was controlled on the canbus, for example 300's had a clock on the dash so the canbus would shut the clock off and vise versa to display the clock on chargers and magnums that didnt have dash clock. the dealer had the abilty to force on or off with the star scan tool. perhaps the dealer has the same ability on the ram. perhaps one of the ram techs can chime in if it is possible.

Thanks for all the input guys, hopefully it's not a 2013 thing. I'm picking up my plates tomorrow, I'll check another truck.

Must be a '13 thing, dunno. Be nice to get feedback once resolved.

I would be interested on how this works out also. Just picked up a '13 Express, and the clock does not display when the radio is off.

I think it's a 2013 thing. My Clock comes on with HUGE letters when the radio is off.
Which is virtually NEVER!

I checked a few at the dealer, that's just the way it is. Def not my favorite thing about the new truck. Looks like I may upgrade the head unit sooner than later.

Did you ask a tech? I can't beleive that there is no way to see what time it is without the radio on.

I just downloaded the 2013 owner's manual and 2013 user's guide. Even after reading it I can't figure out whether the clock can be displayed. I never thought I'd say this but I'm glad I have a 2012. Maybe I've reached geezer status. Give me some ordinary knobs and switches to operate the equipment.
