Cluster upgrade issue

So I purchased a used 7* cluster off of eBay from a 2013 for my 2014 ram I plugged it in yesterday and no luck a red light comes on near the fuel gauge but nothing else. Has any one else run into this issue? to me the cluster is bad but just want to check before I send it back for my refund, thank you.

That red light near the fuel cluster is the "Vehicle Security Light _If Equipped" per the OM. Makes me think there is some type of mismatch between if there was or was not a factory security system between the install vehicle and donor vehicle for the cluster?

Also and just throwing it out there, you sure you did not get a diesel cluster by chance?

Might have to look into having Somone flash the cluster.. Assuming it's supposed to be compatible

The 2013 Cluster works in the 2014. I have the same setup. As Hootbro stated it sounds like it may be the security light if it's not some type of a low fuel light. I have never run my truck low enough on gas to see where the low fuel light is. I have seen the small red security light flash on occasion when I start the truck but it has never actually came on and stayed on. I have never heard of this issue with the upgrade. Is it possible the speedometer was jarred hard enough in a crash the the light somehow has been turned on? There is no flash for the speedometer and the upgrade is a plug and play with no codes needed. I would lean towards the speedometer itself having an issue. I would return it if possible and find another one.

FWIW, there is no dedicated low fuel light, just a EVIC message that says "FUEL LOW".

I do find it is interesting that the security light is on and cluster is dead. As Ricks Ram mention, I wonder also if it is not some default from a severe impact that locks out the cluster? Really the first time I have heard of a RAM cluster not working readily. I know with FORD and their "PATS" system, generally you cannot swap clusters between vehicles as they are tied to the respective VINS when installed at manufacturing. RAM AFAIK, does not have this with their clusters.

you could always try to unhook the battery for awhile while it is plugged in. Might reset something

Going to give this a try tomorrow and also if it doesn't work i will try to get either a picture or video of it and I do have up to 30 days to return, thank you everyone for the help

I disconnected both cables with the cluster plugged in for 20min with no luck looks like time for a return

Never seen that happen before. Do you know anyone with a 13 or newer Ram? Maybe you could install it in another truck to see if it has the same issue.

Did you disconnect the battery before doing the swap and also are you sure all the connectors are fully seated????

Yes, I did and this light is all I get.

That is the theft light I think. Maybe the truck it was in had security. This just got me paranoid so I ran and swapped my cluster in cause I’ve been waiting a year to hit the mileage. It works... only 1200 miles to go

Good idea. Always check immediately, just don't drive anywhere!

If you just purchased it I would attempt to return it. If that's not an option I would contact Dominic at TVandNavToGo to see if he might know how to correct this issue.

Don't mess around with it. They aren't difficult to come by unless you find one with almost perfect mileage to match to your truck.
