I read through these posts. I will likely never have to change my trans fluid, even though my 6.4 2019 2500 has 32K on it. So yeah, low mileage garage queen, but even better, my trans is brand new - changed at zero cost to me under warranty.
I will be 72 years old next month. I don't expect to have this truck or drive far enough to warrant changing the trans fluid. A nice thought for an old guy.
And I did some trans work on a '78 Impala once. I don't want to do that kind of stuff anymore.

There is a lot of excitement advice here. A dealership not wanting to hose you is a rarity.
Took my 2009 Ram 1500 in for a five year check (it has a lifetime engine/powertrain warranty, so this is required). Dealer quoted me $550 to change the trans oil and filters. Tech said it was that high because "the filter is built into the pan and it takes several hours to remove it" - which is FALSE. I told them never mind.

They also wanted to do a lot of other stuff, including replacing one of the license plate lights for $262 because "you have to take the bumper off to get at it" - also FALSE. I bought two lights at O'Reilleys and replaced the bad one in like, two minutes.

Cool - I'm 76 and will be changing my trans oil and filters next month. Unless I die before then, in which case my wife will do it. :p

I had a dealership try something similar to that. I reported them to Chrysler. They had so many complaints that they eventually lost their 5 Star rating and 6 months later closed down altogether.

Geez do you drive a pickup or an suv? Look how clean that bed is
I'm a bit @n@l about keeping things clean, lol. It's had a few grungy rearends and transmissions hauled in it,but i always use a tarp under anything that might leak fluid. The underside of the truck doesn't look bad either, considering it's a 14 that lives in Alberta, and has just under 80,000 clics on it.

Wow, how do you keep rust-free and no oil? My 17 has zero rust but is fifthy with numerous krown and corossionfree applications over the years.

Couple times a year it gets put up on ramps, and i scrub the bottom side of it,lol. It's more toy then truck,as it gives Hellcats fits at the local track, there's a few that won't line up beside it,lol

I just clicked on that ZF pan and it said unavaiable and don't know it it will be restocked.
Shows in stock when I click on it. ::Shrug::
You can just search Amazon for
  • ZF Part#: 1087 298 247
They even have packages with the ZF unicorn fluid if you wanna use that, but maxlife is way cheaper as discussed.

I'm just as crazy. Every time I'm under mine I'm wiping and spraying.

I found Tremclad semi-gloss black to be a close match to the factory black if you need to do any touch-ups . If i didn't have a pile of money invested in the rear diff,i'd be putting the original 3.21 diff back in it,as i'm no fan of the 3.55's that are under the truck now. But with Illicits relocation brackets welded to it,and a tru trac, the 3.55's will stay.If i hadn't welded the brackets to it,i'd swap the tru trac into the 3.21 diff, but getting the brackets off,and properly re-aligned again, isn't all that easy now.

Interesting thing. few years ago I was reading about it. ZF doesn't actually make it.

Stellantis does. ZF licenses it to them. All ones that say "Lifetime" are not actually made by ZF.
Not all 8HP70's were made by Chryco, some of the early ones were made by ZF . My replacement brand new 8HP70 had made in "Germany" on the paperwork, for my 14. That's also how i got the green sheet for the fill procedure, lol.

I called the dealer for front and rear diff change and transmission fluid change at 30k. The service advisor said I didn’t need to do it. They will never work on my truck.

Strange the dealer wont take your money and just do it
Unless they're real busy. I would bet in slow times the work would not be turned away.

Maybe the dealer use is not as busy as the one you go to. Appointments are usually 2 weeks out ever since covid. I heard thats not bad compared to others

J. I too have the 8 speed. The dealer told me the same thing. There is nothing in the owners manual that I could find about it. But there is info on the 6 speed. Basically they told me to leave it alone. I pull a 6500lb camper and that didn't seem to concern them. I wasn't too comfortable with that lifetime bs.
