def question

comrades! going to order a 2500 cummins in next week or so. i live high up - almost 10,000 feet. it gets cold up here. what happens when the def tank gets really cold. ? i have read its good to 12 degrees. thanks in advance for your replies/info. cheers!

The DEF system has heaters to thaw the fluid. The DEF system will disable itself when the temps drop below -15°F (if IRC).

If the DEF freezes then the truck utilizes the EGR more to reduces NOx until the DEF thaws. Unlike the Ford or GM engines that use an electronic DEF heater, the Cummins uses the heat from the engine. It will use the EGR until them DEF in thaws.
