Hello,

We just purchased a 2005 5.9l Cummins Dodge Ram 3500 dually. The emergency brake does not work at all. If it's rolling and the brake is put on, it continues to roll the same.

The brake-set pedal and release seem to work just fine. We followed the cable back all the way to the axle hub assembly. The spring is actually compressing.

Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem? We would like to try to get it fixed ourselves.

Thank you!

parking brakes are notorious for rust, they may just need to be adjusted

does the pedal go to the floor or does it stop before?

Had a similar problem with my 3rd Gen 1500, brake actuated, spring compressed, but the lever attached to the spring didn't actually move. Try pulling the rear brake assembly and check that the parking brake assembly hasn't frozen. Good luck!

This... My actuator levers in the E-brake drum were frozen. The pads were worn to steel. Pop the back rotor off and see. It's a stupid $15 dealer part if I recall, but you have to pull the axle's to do the job. This was on an 11, 1500.

Sometimes the material on the shoe itself just disappears (happened on my Charger)
