Engine Noise

was test driving a new ram 2500 laramie dsl today and from under the hood was a loud noise much like the turbojet fan that comes on on my 1500 laramie when idling hot. the motor had hardly been running 10-15 mins so doubt if was much over warm. my son has a '20 laramie 2500 dsl and his is as quiet as a mouse so that noise worried me enough to pass on the deal. any ideas what that could be..maybe quiets down after a while? I drove 5 or 6 miles each way down the road at 50-60 and noise was constant the whole time. nice truck otherwise

There has to be a temp problem W/fan on high speed did you have the defrost or AC on? it might be in transport mode.

Mine makes a fan noise when I first start and for a while when I'm barely using the go pedal. So does a neighbor's 6.7. Once I can get the rpm up a little it quiets down.

You were hearing the fan. Could be from start up or maybe the guy warmed up the vehicle before hand. I only hear it in hot weather or when towing on hills.

thanx for the info. being new to a dsl and not knowing any better, I bet the truck just needed some more warm up. the salesman probably didnt know much about them either. may run back by that dealer and give it another shot. a chance to make a pretty good deal on a nice low mileage '22 laramie 2500.
