I have converted my truck from TBI to carb.
I found a few places online with instructions on wiring the alternator to run with an external regulator.
It is wired to the regulator per the various diagrams that I have found.
The issue is that it eats regulators like pez and runs at 15+ volts while at road rpm... and thus boils the battery.
The alternator on it is an Advance Auto P7002.
Buy ToughOne Alternator - Remanufactured - 90 Amps P7002 at Advance Auto Parts
My question... it there a way to convert this alternator to a proper external regulator... or is there an actual externally regulated alt that will bolt into place.
I searched, but did not find an answer here.
Thanks in advance.

have you checked all your ground and battery connection? only reason i ask is 15v is not too far of where it should be and could be as simple as a bad ground. does the voltage regulator case have a good ground?

Connections are good, paint was removed behind regulator.
I have seen it as high as 17, but it is usually in the upper 15V range.

if you got good ground connections then the only thing left is upgrading the positive wire that runs between the alternator and the battery
