Social media doesn't charge $60k+, I don't own it, and I'm not Required to use it. And I 'could' turn my phone location off in various ways, if I choose to do so.

I personally think something smells wrong when a company uses a vehicle purchased with hard-earned $ to get back and fourth to work, etc where they "need" to go (we don't have other realistic transportation options around here)... to track, mine & sell data, and then defeat features on an opt-out. Owners are not leasing or renting it from them.

If in fact they are actually doing that, and to what degree?? I hope the opt-out is sensible. Can't wait to hear more 'facts' about this ..not hearsay [Edit, I meant more specific details by owners who've opted out].

Things could one day get real ugly with all this tracking stuff in the wrong hands.

Time to move to the desert ..in an airstream off-grid! LOL:)

Curious what part do you think is hearsay?

IDK ...the opt-out features loss. Data collected if known. Is that a for-sure? I wasn't trying to be a jerk. I went back and edited my post to be what I meant: "more specific details".... That's I guess what I was driving towards.

Thanks for calling me out on that. Wasn't intending to be stand-off-ish.

Ah, I got it. Wasn't calling you out on anything, was just curious which part you meant :)

I could be wrong on this part, I'd have read the legal part again. But If I recall correctly. The Opt-Out part, is only for marketing.
If you opt-out or not, they are going to keep doing "anonymous data collection"

I just saw this thread for the 1st time, filled out the form, starting the 30-day "clock" on the email verification. My post is #27 in this thread, has anyone received the elusive email yet? Anyone?

Thanks to this site and all the neat-o stuff I've found here it has become convenient to memorize my VIN. So there's that.

At 67 I guess I don't have to worry about going out from Alzheimer's Disease like my mother and maternal grandmother.
Alternately my great aunt (same family tree) was quite viable in life and passed at 106!

Out of curiosity, how old of a RAM would I need to not be concerned about this tracking? Does it more affect vehicles that have the touch screen displays, versus the regular stereo / CD players? Nope, still haven't got one, as one vehicle is working for us for now, but I do have a soft spot for the 1500's and 2500's...

Thanks, Jim

Currently, perhaps the most disconcerting invasion of our privacy is the plastic in our wallets. Every purchase we have ever made is documented, permanent, and easily retrievable; one hell of an incredibly extensive record of our individual life style, including dates, times and locations. It is subject to data mining, sale by the credit card companies (or individuals within the company), subpoena, and even voluntary dissemination by the company, (or individuals within the company), to government agencies, politicians or others (not necessarily for legitimate purposes). To add to this invasion, politicians are now trying to figure out a way to convince us to transition to a complete “cashless society”.

(Can’t help but wonder the status of individual privacy 5 years from now……..will it even exist.)

Regarding privacy in contemporary vehicles, including our Rams, suggest you read article in below link. The authors (specialists in privacy risk assessments) believe contemporary automobiles are the greatest threat to privacy. Here are 2 snippets from that article:

Cars are the worst product “we have ever reviewed for privacy,” the authors wrote, calling them a “privacy nightmare.”

“All of the car brands were deemed as collecting too much personal data, while 84 percent also shared or sold data. More than half “say they can share your information” with government officials upon “informal request.” All except two — Renault and Dacia — gave “drivers little to no control over their personal data,” such as the choice to delete personal data.”

Here’s link to the full article, definitely worth reading:

Barring subscriptions, is there any default functionality that this opt-out eliminates?
