Is the HF polisher any good for those who have it? I'm new to polishing and would like to learn. Thanks in advance.

It is a great polisher to start out, I still have mine from years back and will use it from time to time. Their pads even work decent although I don't use them anymore.

Gary Dean uses a HF da polisher. HF is in most cities so you do not have to order. The HF polisher is a good beginners tool. A polisher about the same size is the PC7424XP of which I have. Go buy one and order some quality pads from Autopia and Autogeek. Both are having St. Patrick day sales

I have this one from harbor freight and it's really good. Just be careful as it spins really fast and you can burn the paint..

I think that's the one they have on sale for $50 I mean I can't see spending $250 on a polisher when I don't even know if I'll be able to do it.

if it is dual action how can it hurt a paint job, mine spins up to 6000 rpm and zero issues, oh not HF

its the lack of knowledge using the buffer...its when people start tilting the buffer at an extreme angle or working on one area just to "get that little spot". You will overheat the paint and burn through.

Yeah those are the ones I wasn't aware they had so many I thought they only sold a few. And I have some knowledge as to not keep it in one place too long and not to tilt or anything. I'm also gonna try it on my old 04 first

Which compounds do they sell at auto parts stores because that's probably what I'll get. Just for starters

Do you really need a compound? Usually you can get a lot done with a good quality polish. Any cutting compound will produce more swirls which are harder to remove. I use Chemical guys products cause they're affordable and produce great results while also being pretty forgiving.

I have never had a cutting compound produce swirls. Foreign matter on a pad will instill swirls

I'll take a look and sorry I'm not too familiar with all the differences.

Okay so let's say I just want to get a good shine on my truck and maybe help some oxidation on family members vehicles, should I just use the cutting polish and the final polish

I would try Meguiars Ultimate Compound first. Then move on to a more aggressive cut if the above does not work as you like
