hey all, im looking at buying this 1999 dodge ram 1500. it has a little more than a decent amount of rust on the door, and underneath. is this amount of rust, too much rust? could this amount of rust be bad for the truck? or is it still structurally and mechanically sound? any help would be greatly appreciated.

As said above underside is fine, body has a good bit of cancer. I would pass just on that unless it's really cheap. It's definitely fixable but I wouldn't go through the hassle.

Look up chassis saver by magnet paints. Used it, and it was great on mine

How would I go about preventing the rust on the doors from spreading with that? Would I just cost the the cavity that the rust made with it ?

You can't. Its to late now, IMO you're only real option is to replace the rotted panels and the doors. There is no cheap spray fix to this. You'd have to cut the rust away and coat that where the holes are. Then you'll still have huge missing chunks out of your doors. You're just better off getting new ones.

If you can do the bodywork, I think it's a good truck. Underneath it looks great! Budget permitting, get a mig welder. I've fixed FAR worse rust than that...42 years worth.

Welding is now old news, glue them panels in that's today's tech and is so much easier then messing with a welder.
