I have a slt 4x4 1500 2010, can I get away with a 300 gallon tank? It would add 2500 pounds or one and a half of my wife's sisters, however you look at it :)

I would do it but hey who am I, people have gotten away with weight more than that. I don't think that it's going to be fun hauling that.

That's a lot of weight for our coil springs to handle. The leaf spring system would be better but the smoother ride in the new rams hurt payload rating. I know airlift's don't change load ratings but I would feel better with a set of those maxed out if you choose to run with it.

Riding on the bump stops isn't going to be your problem ,"Tires" are your problem.
Read the max load rating on your tires,it ain't fun blowing a tire when you're way over weight hauling water.
Any liquid is a ***** to haul, and it gets worse when your overloaded by that much, and blowing a tire isn't uncommon overloaded that bad.
Heat from sidewall flex kills tires fast, and you'll probably have some sidewall flex, even if you put 90PSI in each tire

Yeah thanks fella's, I guess I'll look for a 200 gallon tank, but most of those are made for small pickups. I have a hard time thinking a chevy colorado can haul 210 gallons, but yet they make a tank for that. Best thing is whatever I get it is just water, so if it seams too heavy I can just dump some load off to make the trip. Bottom line is I have to make it work, gotta water farm crop and the well wont sustain agr. Maybe I'll look into towing a water tank as another option.

It may sound trite/cliche, but your application calls for at least a SRW 3500, if not a dually. The tow-behind tank would be no issue, and would likely ensure a longer life for many components on your truck, and keep you more productive with less fill-ups.
I know it's easy for me to say because I don't have to pay for it, but facts is facts

Yeah, I wanted to avoid a water trailer because it is a little steep bumpy terrain, but I'll get the lightest one I can find and just go slow when watering. After talking it over the in bed tank wont work, but it sure is a cool idea if it would. Thanks everyone for the reply's.

The only thing with leaving a water tank partially full is slosh inside the tank.
We hauled water for the farm when i was a kid,and a partially full tank was a handful and that was only 500 gallons in the back of a 3 ton Fargo grain truck.
A water trailer is your best bet,and you can leave the tank on it ,no need to lift it off like you would a truck mounted tank

Take it from me. I had 1364lbs in the back of my truck, weighed at the dump, and I was sitting below level. I wouldn't want to go much more than 1200 if I was going for a long ride.

Wouldn't a water trailer have huge baffles to keep slosh to a minimum??

300 gal X 8 lbs (est)= 2400 lbs of sloshing moving weight it can handle it just not legally. Airlift 100's would be a smart add on to help truck survive.
