    Hi Dougsign,

Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to follow up with them for you if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know.

It's been reported to pop up, sometimes even when no DEF has been added to the tank for quite some time.
The fixes have ranged from a DEF tank flush-n-refill, flash update and also some DEF sending unit replacement. These ha e been on EcoDs but they use a similar DEF system.

While driving across northern Arizona in December I got a service DEF system see dealer alarm, it cleared after a few minutes, then I got 5mph max speed in 150 mi see Dealer alarm which stayed in. I stopped and checked maps and panicked when I realized I was over 200 miles to the nearest dealer and it was a Saturday afternoon. Continued on 70 miles to where I was planning to stay overnight and picked the furthest town I could get to and get towed from the next day. Was pulling a travel trailer so was going to be a real mess. Next morning started the truck and no alarm, haven't seen it again. At that time I didn't realize that once I turned off the truck it was going to be limited to 5mph if the alarm had stayed in so I really lucked out.

While traveling to TX from PA to attend an Open Range RV Rally I noticed that my DEF gauge was not moving. I filled it up and it took 2.5 gal of DEF, started keeping track if DEF usage by miles traveled and would fill up in the 600 to 800 range. Returning from TX I got a check engine after driving about 1000 miles before filling up the DEF. Found a dealer the next day and they reset the code. Had to have to the code reset another time before I got home.Dealer had truck for almost 2 weeks replacing the DEF sensors and how the "Service DEF System" is showing up in the VIC!
