Well, the only good apple, is the kind you can eat!

The .exe is a self extracting 7zip file (direct download from FCA). I'm sure that you either have an unzipping utility or that there is a Mac version of 7zip available. Just open the exe with a zip utility and copy the swdl.iso file (as-is) to a fat32 formatted 4-32gb thumbdrive with nothing else on the drive.

Beyond that, hopefully another Mac user can comment on it.

Installed and working in a 2016 Tradesman (other than Siri will not work). I do not have access to the vin of the donor vehicle.

I would like to update the software if it's a good idea. Keep seeing mixed reviews though.

I agree , I have a 15 RA4 8.4NA that works perfectly , voice texting and all , I believe mine has 14.25 SW I may never update ! Mainly because of how much I use the voice texting and I wouldn't want to loose that .

With a 2016 RA4, It's s good idea to use the dealer menu (see bottom of OP) to verify the radio pn and sw version match what you posted AND especially match the pn physically on the back of the radio before you attempt to flash anything (may need to pop the radio out briefly).

There have been a few cases where it doesn't match and makes choosing the correct sw a PiTa. But it did look like you have an available update.

Is there a method for getting map updates? I've got a 2015 and 2014 and both have the same lousy map that is so out of date. There are roads added and changed years ago and this map still has old data that shows you driving in the middle of a field and complaining that you are off track. I've searched the thread and forum and didn't see anything about this issue or how to fix it.

Yaa I get to purchase and update for $150. My 2015 says its up to date. These updates should be pushed automatically and for free. For those of us who upgraded from a 5.0 to an 8.4an we are even more screwed because we can't have a Uconnect account.

Chrysler is notorious for having old maps. Back around 2012 they were delivering new 200s and some other vehicles with maps that were like 5 years old. They got so many complaints that they made update discs available for free, but they were still old.

I have a 2012 300 with the previous generation 8.4 system and it wasn't until last year sometime that they even made an update disc available to purchase (they had been promoting it for years). Fortunately that system uses a Garmin nav module and some people discovered you can install maps from a portable Garmin GPS unit. So, I get new maps every 3 months for free.

The part number I posted is verified - I took a pic of the back of the radio. When I said "i think" what i meant was I think its a 2016 radio.

Thanks for the info. I would like to do update it if the update will make the Siri hands free work - currently Siri doesn't hear what I say.

Do me a favor and post that picture of the back and a picture of the Dealer Menu screen showing what pn and sw version are currently being reported by the radio to make sure they match.

You could always just try the latest sw version for your 2016 RA4 linked from the OP (v16.09.09), but it would be wise to verify the above first.

No you can't access dealer mode without the factory bezel (or reset the radio), so here's the deal...

Your radio pn label indicates it's a 2016 Ra4/vp4-na and your fw shows 15.41.4 (vs the 15.44.4 I pulled previously off the Ram uConnect update site w/valid vin, maybe I have a typo).

You can certainly update to the latest 16.09.09 fw but there is obviously no guarantee you will be able to roll back to 15.41.4 later.

See post 5 for 2016 fw and make sure you verify the md5 of the downloaded file to make sure you don't get a bad D/L.

It won't work on the trucks. They use the next gen 8.4 with maps from HERE (formerly Navteq). Moving to Garmin was a huge step forward and going back to Navteq was a bad idea, IMO. We'll have to see what the new generation brings in 2017.

Did your truck come with an 8.4 from the factory? If so, go for it. If not, you can still attempt the flash but it is very important you download the correct firmware package from UConnect.
