There's an alternative source for compass data ...Satelite radio/GPS antenna. There's a BCM setting for it

M² Mods.

Im intrigued. Can this be turned on with alfaobd? If so what is the setting called? Ill try it out. I dont have an overhead console or compass module. Will it show in the radio and cluster?

There's a BCM option that can be turned on to display compass heading in Cluster/radio. The AlfaOBD should be able to do it and if you check the shared BCM config files in the OP of the AlfaOBD thread, you can see one a factory 2018 Laramie 1500 to compare to for the missing setting... Or ask in the thread. Ghost Ram and Ricks Ram may recall if asked in the thread.

I am going to downgrade my RA4 8.4 swap back to the RA2 here shortly. It just doesn’t do it for me, nothing wrong with it. But I found a great deal on a VP2 with a part number of 68306938AB out of a 2017 Jeep, wondering if it will work.

I just installed an RA2 i bought on eBay and am wondering how to update software when the uconnect website will only show you updates based on your VIN. My VIN is associated with my old RA1.

You need the VIN of the truck the radio came from.

You can use alfaobd to get it out of the radio too.

OK, I don't have a OBD Link tool or that software. I thought mpgrimm2 started this thread stating he was going to keep up with the software versions. I was hoping that meant I could get the firmware from him or some other advice about getting the FW update.

I'm just keeping track of the Ra2 PNs. I don't have SW for the Ra2 radios.

If you know the PN and can match the year of the vehicle it came from, you can do a Auto trader, eBay search for a same year truck with the same radio to get a VIN that might work for a download

Removed the RA1 on my neighbor’s 2016 Tradesman and replaced it with an RA2 from a 2018, p/n P68365210AC.

Install was mainly for the backup camera option which works well including dynamic grid lines.

2013 ram 1500 CC tradesman. upgraded my radio from a 2013 RA1 to 2015 RA2 for the Bluetooth handsfree option. Took to dealership and ordered a backup camera kit for radio screen and had them do the install, They have had the truck now for 3 days and yet to get the camera install to show up on the radio screen. no blue screen just a blank screen when they put truck in reverse. They say they have flashed with sales codes, XAC codes etc. 3 different tech involved. 1 tech said he had to go back in and do some corrections on the install. Going down in the morning. Could it be the radio just not compatible. No updates to SW because I don't have the vin # the radio came out of. Any suggestions.

If you keep having problems, you only have 2 options.
Replace the radio with a 2013 Ra2 (or maybe a 2014),
or the easier option to try is to locate the Vin of a 2016 truck that came with an Ra2 (SLT, Express, bighorn) and use that vin to check uConnect update site for an update (if the vin has already been updated, it may not let you pull the correct update/ version).
