Interior Rear door handles

Anyone have tips on how to remove just the INTERIOR REAR DOOR HANDLES ? Have hd the panel off several times ( removed arm rest ) thinking of removing the door handles to smooth the rear door panels without handles or speaker protusion. Planning to adhere padded vinyl cover with sound deadener flush to door to install dog compartment..thanks
